Tim, I checked this one up as I thought you were wrong there. And it turns out you were indeed. The Six nations is only 16 years old.

By the way, should it be renamed? Can scotland and wales carry the title of “nation”?

4 home games?

How did these teams qualify for this tournament?

In the greater scheme of things this is equivalent of the Ulster Hurling Championship.

And yet, bizarrely there’ll be sell outs for every game.

The single greatest marketing scam of all time.

The IRFU has announced their ticketing package for the 2016 Six Nations with prices starting from as little as €15 for the home games against Wales, Scotland and Italy.

Just days after the end of a bitterly disappointing World Cup quarter-final defeat to Argentina, the union has confirmed the packages on offer as Joe Schmidt’s side look to win a third successive championship.

Schoolboy and schoolgirl tickets can be purchased for €15, as well as seats with restricted viewing for the Scotland and Italy clashes.

Category One tickets range from €70 to €80, while a Premium Level seat will cost €105 when Warren Gatland’s side travel to the Aviva Stadium on February 7th on the opening weekend of the tournament.

Ireland host Italy on Saturday March 12th and finish the campaign the following weekend at home to the Scots.

Tickets are now available through affiliated rugby clubs and schools, supporters clubs and hospitality packages. Any remaining tickets, if any, will be made available to the general public in early 2016.

Hold on a minute. Why are there restricted view seats in a modern stadium which cost over 300m?

The hurling league?

WOW. Huge news.

No surprise though really. The ratings are just extraordinary and is leading the way for Irish sport.

I was under the impression, however, that RTÉ had the rights until 2017.

“We have always enjoyed a successful relationship with John Feehan and the Six Nations Committee and are very pleased to be continuing our partnership up to and including the tournament in 2017."

John Feehan, Chief Executive of Six Nations Rugby said: "We are delighted to have extended our contract with RTÉ for an additional four years.

My great hope is that TV3 get that Cork sicko out of the hot seat and put Matty Williams there. Bring Franno in to restore the Dream Team. Keep on Shane Jennings as he was excellent during the tournament. The third panelist can be someone on rotation.

Its 2018 to 2021.

Confirmed

So no more rugby football on RTÉ. A sad day but with it becoming the commercial beast it is it was kind of inevitable.

And this has all happened on Ryle’s watch. Unacceptable.

Go on…
