Anyone tempted? Very suspicious that they aren’t advertising download speeds, I think.
Haven’t heard great things-I think they might be piggybacking on Eircom’s network which was shit when i had it a few years ago anyway.
Will be switching to them next month. Theyre using the eircom lines so if you do an eircom linetest youll see what speed you can get.
Id be more worried about contention rates and jitter
Yeah they’re just another reseller of the same product. I know a few people on here and specific issues with UPC recently, and their customer service is woeful, but they have the best product by a distance.

What are contention rates and jitter art?
I am very happy with Eircom tbh. Have their broadband over 2 years & no issues yet.
Just to put your mind at ease mate, UPC eventually sent out an engineer who tested the line and said there was a fault in the area. He said they would “send a team out to check”. I assumed he was bullshitting but lo and behold 3 days later everything was working perfectly and has been since-between 15 and 20mb at all times and same for my neighbour. Thanks for your support in what was a difficult time for me Rocko.
Splendid news.
I have this for a month now and after a shaky start its been splendid
Much of a saving?
Cheaper than eircom and Vodafone anyway. UPC probably a better option if you can take that. We’ve to pay for a landline now that we’ll never use.
The jitter is more for gamers than average browsers fagan. The contention ratio is the number of people sharing your broadband
Its not as much of a problem but you used to have up to 48 people sharing 8mb
contention rates are like what you experience on sat night trying to get a pint. Jitter is what you get the day after you find a spot with no contention
Just on to Sky there as tablet download speeds are ok (10MBish) near the hub but at either end of the not too large bungalow (2 rooms away) I live in, speeds are down to 1-2Mb. They reckon they can’t do anything about it and that I should get a wireless booster. Are they right or is the hub shite?
Huge lags with Sky broadband if I try to watch anything in HD on Apple TV. It is a trade off as sky tv interface is better than UPC.
Thats third world shit right there.
Any decent sized house needs a second wifi box, get the powerline plugins running through the electrical circuit and run cat cables to pc and xbox if possible.
Lads I am paying the guts of €125 per month for TV and broadband-viable alternatives please. Has there been any improvements in speeds from providers other than UPC in the last few months? @Rocko ?
Are you getting all the channels or what?
Yes apart from the BT sport ones-I went to get rid of the movies but I was vetoed.
