I have no time for John Boyne, never liked the guy. It would be like if I objected to being called straight because I think straight is just the default and shouldn’t need a word for it and then I deleted my TFK account because of the abuse off @glasagusban.
Writing teenager books that are really for grown ups. Writing a very boring book about being abused by a paedophile priest and then becoming a priest yourself that was the bleakest view on Ireland and religion you could ever read and then have the usual establishment lackies line up to call it brave and brilliant just because it supported some liberal certainties. Writing a book that is universally appreciated from anybody who is twelve years or older is a remarkable thing, there have been very few, a couple of his more recent books have been excellent as well
