Only a casual soccer viewer but surprised at the love for Marcelo. Always looked a bit of a bombscare to me.

At his peak he was an incredible player. Much more of an all rounder than just a left back. Probably behind Ronaldo the most consistent player in that real Madrid team.

He was outstanding over the 3 Champions League winning years. Never seen a left back as central to a teamā€™s performance. Regularly the best player on the pitch in big CL games

Kompany was brilliant in the 2016 semi final against Real Madrid. He held the back four together.

Iā€™d agree with the general point that he doesnā€™t enter the team of the decade.

He might have done if City found someone like Laporte earlier. Heā€™s been burdened by some dreadful partners in his time at City

Thatā€™s a fact. Kompany won the league with Demichelis and Clichy beside him. Chiellini has been among the best best 4 including Buffon for years. Not to take away from Chiellini, an outstanding leader and warrior. Maybe Kompany doesnā€™t get ahead but there can be a case to be made
