Some good news

British Soldier killed playing football
THE Scots soldier killed on Remembrance Sunday by a rogue Afghan trooper was shot as he played FOOTBALL.
Captain Walter Barrie, 41, was enjoying a kickabout with Afghan and Brit comrades when he was gunned down by traitor Mohammad Ashraf.
Capt Barrie, of Glasgow, organised the morale-boosting matches inside Patrol Base Shawqat in Nad-e Ali, Helmand. Comrades hunted down Afghan army turncoat Ashraf and shot him dead.
Capt Barrie’s wife Sonia called him a “great man”.
Capt Barrie, of The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, served as a squaddie for 22 years before becoming an officer in 2009. He had completed tours of duty in Iraq, Bosnia and Northern Ireland.
An Army spokesman said: “He enriched the lives of everybody he came across.”
Deadly attacks where Afghan security forces attack friendly troops — code-named “green on blues” — have claimed 14 Brits this year and 22 since the conflict began in October 2001.

Seriously, that thread title…

Tragic story, this. Turns out Mohammad had never played football before and mistakenly pulled the trigger when everyone shouted “shoot, shoot, shoot…” at him when he was clean through on goal. Captain Barrie was the unfortunate goalkeeper.

George Orwell said that football was war minus the shooting. I bet he feels like a right fool now.

“He enriched the lives of everybody* he came across.”

*Except Catholics he shot from his watchtower in South Armagh.

Martin O’Neill sent condolences to the family

The Brits thought it was 15 minutes each way for extra time but the Afghans were playing sudden death rules.
