Any 1996 Olympic montage featuring the heroic feats of Michelle Smith?

This bit always get me

Don’t know who this is, have recollection of him been some political journalist as some EU conference/summit on in Dublin at the time.

However there’s a lad in a jersey behind him

John Healy from Charlestown in Mayo. He wrote “No One Shouted Stop” about rural depopulation. He died about six or seven months after this. It was the EC Summit in Dublin Castle. Ireland had the presidency of the EC at the time.

I don’t have the heart to post it, but they did an incredible one during the First Lockdown on the Sunday Game.

I like the bit that starts at 5:40 here because I saw it live in a pub packed with Irish people in London.

RTE Katie Taylor montage pre-Olympic final 2012
Music: College & Electric Youth - A Real Hero (Drive Original Movie Soundtrack)

This clip is on the FAI YouTube channel with music by The Stunning but it is 100% a fact that the pictures were originally put together by RTE for their ad for their coverage of Ireland v Saudi Arabia and the backing music was by Acquiesce by Oasis, coming in immediately as the second chorus starts. I’ve just dubbed the music over the pictures and it fits perfectly. I will fight anybody over this fact. The ad was played on heavy rotation for five days.

RTE did a classic montage with “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty which played into them going to Giants Stadium before the teams walked out for Ireland v Norway at USA '94, but this is nowhere to be found on the INTERNET. I think they may have played it on the coverage in the days between the Mexico and Norway games, but they definitely played it right before the Norway game. This montage was my introduction to Tom Petty and was also the introduction of my peers on my street to Tom Petty, and it made quite the impact because I specifically remember one of my female peers on my street singing that song on the street that night. In hindsight I’m sorry she did back down because she was one of those girls you only realised years later you actually fancied the hole off without knowing it.

This is brilliant by RTE.

Not sports, granted, but the man just had a great voice for all types of montage.
