I might be mixing stuff up but I think they used that music for the Reeling in the Years coverage of USA '94 - maybe something to do with the Aldridge clash with the Mexicans
What I am certain of is RTE used âI Wonât Back Downâ prominently during the tournament itself, specifically following the Aldridge incident, which was the centrepiece of the montage played immediately before the Norway game. They cut from the end of the montage to George Hamilton saying âwelcome to Giants Stadiumâ. Thatâs 29 years ago today. One of the worst association football matches ever played.
If Reeling In The Years later used it too itâs precisely because RTE used it prominently in 1994.
Good effort here. Kyle Hayes soaring over Canning should have made the cut.

Incredible. It would bring tears to your eyes.
Without sport we are nothing as a country.
Life isnât worth living without sport.
I far hope we make the next World Cup. It would be some lift to the country and the diaspora in America.
Letâs first focus on winning the Eurovision Song Contest again. We need to walk again before we can run again.
Letâs set vaguely achievable goals before aiming for the pie in the sky.
I love that youâve completely ignored rugby and golf there.
You could drop out that horse racing shite too.
Harringtonâs multiple Majors and Lowryâs British Open obvious inclusions too.
Canât remember many memorable rugby moments in World Cup knock out games that mattered.
Ireland finally scoring a goal under Stephen Kenny against Serbia in March 2021.
Weâll be adding Rhasidat to them in a few years.
Istabraqs 3rd champion hurdle and sea the stars arc win
We need a miracle on current form.
