Sports return dates after Covid 19 shutdowns

When it comes back it will suit the baseline players like Jim courier. The serve and volley merchants will be coming too close to the other players

Whether tennis and other sports can return will depend on social distancing measures continuing to be effective, meaning the foot fault on the streets has to remain low for the foreseeable future. (cc: of @Fagan_ODowd).

NRL Island

There will surely be no mass gatherings allowed this side of September/October anyway even if sport does come back in some form during the Summer. So no music festivals, no Galway races, etc. Even the Premier League are not countenancing crowds being involved if they finish the season during the Summer. Maybe a truncated GAA championship behind closed doors is the best we could hope for. Hard to picture All-Ireland finals in a near empty Croke Park but I can’t see how they square that circle. Mass gatherings are likely off the menu for 2020.

Not ideal but at this stage most sports fans would watch two flies racing up a wall. As long as it was live.

NHL looking at playing out the playoffs in north dakota as its very sparsely populated, behind closed doors. problem being all the Canadian teams and players going back and forth. Bizarre.

The weekend of November 14th-15th will feature a classic triple bill of the US Masters, the Grand National and the FA Cup semi-finals.

November is the new April.

Agreed. Risk reward won’t allow it.

They should take the All Ireland senior championships back to the clubs. Games played behind closed doors at club venues all around the country. Wexford v Galway in the Leinster championship in the bottom field at Hollymount and so on. It would be novel and allow clubs rather than county grounds to have the honour of hosting competitive championship games. Draw for home venue for provincial finals and all knockout matches.

the sports rabbi reported today that we wont have professional sport in israel for at least 6 months
now this is the place where last week where there were riots between the army and orthodox jews who refused to accept there was an issue with the virus - the army won with the aid of drones, tear gas and water cannon - so you can imagine what lengths the lockdown is going to over there

Confirmed: No football in the Netherlands until September with or without an audience.

Meaning it is now almost certain that the Eredivisie season cannot be finished .

Correct decision. Null and void the lot, apart from giving Celtic the 9 in a row.

Why are there so many different plans out there on this?? Germans ready to go

A friend of a friends brother plays for a club in the Championship. All players were sent home when the league was halted. Everyone is to be back for training on Tuesday with the expectation of the league continuing behind closed doors 2 or 3 weeks after that.

Governments will want to get some form of sport back up and running behind closed doors as a distraction for the masses.

You’d imagine it would be reasonably low risk if they effectively isolated squads and staff.

Still, one case and the whole thing would come crumbling down.

Surely the PFA won’t allow it?

I suspect it will come down to economics over the risk to player welfare. Lots of PFA members are going to be struggling.

We’re about to come to the end of the period of (mostly) social solidarity. The public is going have to be thrown a bone to keep the peace.
