The Buddies won 3-0 at Aberdeen at the weekend & they’ll set up to frustrate with lots of bodies defending deep & then looking to get Celtic’s defence turned by playing long balls into space & winning attacking set pieces.
I expect Nawrocki will start after coming on for the injured Welsh. Not sure if there’ll be other changes, it’s been a busy festive programme. Celtic lost here last season & this should be a tough game.
I hope the great Brendan Rodgers has the players properly tuned in after Saturday’s euphoria. It’d be very annoying to give back the advantage straight away.
PS, after all their sulking about Saturday, I expect the huns to get at least one penalty today.
They left him out of the World Cup squad in late 2022 too but he’d been back involved since then. They’ve plenty of attacking talent though. Maeda was outrageously bad again at the weekend up against an absolute diddy playing left back for the huns but he does all the hard running, pressing & ugly stuff. It might come in useful today & it’d be nice if his actual football touch returned.
Ah they weren’t overrun. I’ve watched the game again. They were wasteful on several occasions - no more so than Abada shooting straight at Butland in a 4 on 2 - & allowed the huns to get into our own half a few times when turning over the ball carelessly. They scored from a freekick & created nothing else. No denying Maeda’s workrate but his quality has been way below par since returning from injury.
Nawrocki’s passing seems to be pretty decent from the back. He played that really good ball to O’Riley for Kyogo’s goal at the weekend. Seems to be able to - I don’t want to say it - break the lines and find the attacking players behind the opposition midfield.
