Staunton Poll

There is a new poll on the main page of the site about Staunton’s future. There were problems in the past about cookies not allowing people to vote on the poll but this has now been solved.

I think you should have put up a “couldn’t give a fook about Staunton & the Irish Soccer Team” option

Hey rock

that is a stupid poll. I mean whats the point? what do you think is going to happen as a result of it? Eh? Are the FAI going to sack him? Doubt it.

Idiot

Tick Tock, Rock is a Cock, Tick Tock, Rock is a Cock

Hey WOW a question on your signature: March 15th 2006 was a Wednesday, did they play 6 nations games midweek this year?

should be 18th march :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

As I said to various members of the free kick board over the weekend, life is rarely black and white but when you concede five goals to Cyprus (and count yourself lucky at that) then you must be fired. If he is left in charge then we will finish this qualifying campaign second last and will be screwed with regard to seedings for the World Cup.

The argument has been made that he doesn’t have the players. That is bullshit. The defence that so criminally malfunctioned on Saturday was made up of Finnan (regular with a top European side), Dunne (captain of a Premiership team), O’Brien (sub in a Premiership team granted but enough experience to be more than able to cope with Cyprus) and O’Shea (regular in a top European side). Staunton is clearly incompetent and should be given the boot now before any further damage is done.

As for replacement I would plump for Kenny Daglish. He has a proven record and would probably take it. One thing is for sure Staunton must be ran

Agree with you all the way farmer until you drop that bombshell in the last paragraph. Anybody who witnessed Celtic’s performances under Dalglish the year before O Neill took over would beg to differ with his proven track record. He was an absolute joke of a figure in Glasgow - organising press conferences in Celtic pubs to try and generate some bond with the fans but Christ we were awful with him in charge. His motivation is long gone and he has been out of the game too long now.

And anyone who witnessed Liverpool under Daglish would say something different. There are contrasting viewpoints on his ability granted given his record at Celtic. But there he acted as a sort of advisor to Barnes which was never going to work. I propose installing him as manager directly.

I dont think you can dismiss him due to him being out of the game for so long. Once a good manager always a good manager. The question is do you think he ever was a good manager?

I for one do…

No I absolutely agree that he was once a good manager - not sure your maxim about “once a good manager” holds true though. I wouldn’t want Jack Charlton back as manager for example. It is clear to most people that Alex Ferguson’s managerial skills have diminished considerably in recent years. Managers are not good or bad, black or white. They need motivation, a rapport with the players and current tactical and technical knowledge to be successful. I think Dalglish is lacking in most of those characteristics (though he is ahead of Stan on all counts probably).

Dalglish managed Celtic for about 4 or 5 months after Barnes were sacked. In that period we were absolutely dismal - as bad as Celtic have ever been and by God there were dark days during the nineties.

I think when you look at his most recent record (being Celtic, Newcastle and a bizarre stint at Rangers when he spent all their money on Sebastien Rozenthal) then you can certainly make a case for a serious disimprovement in his abilities.

I just saw John Delaney in the jacks in the Burlington. He came in and stood beside me while i was taking a whizzoopers. I was very tempted to tell him to get rid of that Staunton cooont, but i refrained and just smiled politely.

Also i was in the KPMG jacks yesterday and this French prick was taking a whizzoopers, which is fine only he had his fookin tie thrown over his shoulder. I would let anyone away with this infringment once as, who knows, he may have been coming from somewhere windy (like a partner’s office!). But I seen this fooker do the same thing before; so i went over, punched him in the kidneys and stuck his head in the urinal and told him not to foook with me again.
