Sounds like old people from Connemara I knew back in the day. The use of “the” before “English”, “Irish” is proper original Hiberno English.

This is another article about how the language you speak shapes how you think and see the world because of how a language is structured. I remember years ago reading that English makes it harder to imagine yourself old or in the future but is better for describing events as they happen.
