Shamrock Rovers can today confirm that Stephen McPhail has signed for the club for the 2014 season.
McPhail’s contract with English Championship side, Sheffield Wednesday comes to an end this month, allowing him to put pen to paper on a deal with the Hoops.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who has also played for Leeds United, Barnsley and Cardiff City will officially leave the Championship club on February 18 and link up with Rovers.
McPhail, who also has a number of full Irish international caps, has signed a one year contract with Shamrock Rovers.
Hoops boss, Trevor Croly said: “Stephen is a very good addition to our squad for the up-coming season. He is a quality player who has significant experience playing at a very high level. He will fit in well to the squad we have built for the new season and blends in well with the mix of youth, experience and talent we have put together. He is proven to have a strong, committed character and is very keen to come and do well here well at Shamrock Rovers.”

As good a technical footballer as Ireland has produced over the last 20 years. Wonderful left foot on him. Awful shame injuries never let him fulfill his true potential. He would have been the next Liam Brady and would have excelled in Italy only for the double cruciate injury
Stephen McPhail can barely tie his bootlaces without getting injured. Rejoicing this is the equivalent of admitting that you’ve nothing left to aspire to in the land of convicts.
