would a standardized Hurley do away with the art of making a hurley? All the makers have their own little kink in a design and finish around the edge of the heel etc and the shape of the Bas.
I presume if it was standardized then it would be a spec thatâs sent out or a template and theyâd be generic?
I donât think they are, the rule book makes no distinction from what I can see. If they had to go back to a regulation sized hurl it would give the attacking team more incentive to go for goal, donât see anything wrong with that.
Itâd definitely affect their current designs somewhat, but Iâm sure they could work with it. After all, they definitely used to make hurleys of those sizes.
Rules donât say anything about thickness so there is probably scope there.
Nothing wrong at all also it will change up puck out strategy as ypu canât go as long. The defence can pack out the half forward line forcing teams to go short and vise versa
No Iâd say the opposite and say that Tipp and Galway who have racked up the most of these Minor/Under 17/20/21 titles in the last 3 or 4 years are crying out for a few 19 or 20 year oldâs to come in and rip it up but they arenât really there.
Galway could do with injecting some pace into the side around midfield and half forward.Young Kilcommins looked a sensational minor and was playing a bit with the seniors last yr but is missing atm for some reason. Midfield/halfforward line with Coen, Davy Burke,Joe Cooney and Cathal Mannion starting will be burned with pace.
Iâd agree with part of this sentiment but thereâs a challenge when colleges reopen every September in that youâre usually missing your college lads for sessions during the week and most of them will be tempted out on the beer the week of a championship match. Not having any championship matches when youâre at your peak fitness in July and August is frustrating as these are the months when most people have more time off work and may be that little bit fresher for a championship game during this period.
I hope you are right but its a pretty long lull when you really have to go back to 2017 since the last real proper debutants under 19/20 ripped up a Championship.
All the talk about the sliotar/rule changes wouldnât be happening if there was a young Joe Canning, Austin Gleeson or Tony Kelly breaking through now to get people excited.
After looking at the scorelines of all hurling games the previous week, it got me thinking. If I was starting my career again, where would I play. And to be honest, the answer is a no brainer. Half-back.
Shane was lucky to get out before Kiely turned him into a half back.
