Stick hurling: Parental Guidance advised

The refs need a little Ryanair-esque measuring frame that they can easily carry around with them.
If the hurl don’t fit, you must re-kit.

Under 12’s. Do me a favour.

I see where you’re coming from on this. Which is why I stated above that the dropping the hurley rule would have to be amended.

For no particular reason.

Most club championships won’t start until mid August still mate under new system.

This. 100%

What does free-flowing mean?

I think some people would consider it to mean the ball being moved quickly from one end of the pitch to the other (potentially without a hand being laid on a player) which will lead to scores in a very short space of time.

Others might say that it means the ball being in play for longer; end-to-end hurling so to speak. But this most likely means lots of ruck and congestion which are one of the so-called “blights”.

I think people are referring to the length of time over a free as a fella inside corner forward jogs out 80 yards to hit a free… the Dow was masterful at this.

If you reduce the length a fella can strike it and accuracy of strike then it will lead to more congestion and slow the game down, more frees and more throw ins when a ruck isn’t won clean. Look at football - very hard to kick an accurate long pass so short handpasses are used with lots of men around the man in possession. This is what hurling would essentially become as coaches will not move away from a possession based game to a whack it long 50/50 approach, that isn’t going to happen.

Hurling as it is now is the best spectator sport in the World. Constant action, the pace is mind blowing, the skill is unmatched. Perfection is unattainable. The game is grand.

Suits in Croke Park trying to justify their salaries will fuck the game up if they’re let

I agree that from 24 years of age and over, players are as skilled as ever but below that there’s a major problem. I’m not saying hurling was better twenty years ago at all.

And its as direct result of policy changes at underage level by the GAA in the last 5 years.

There’s a Championship about to start in three weeks and there’s hardly 7 players under 22 likely to feature? Morris, Daly, Cody, Mullen, Morrissey and Rodgers? Anyone else? Some of these wont even start.

Compared to 5 years ago there’d have been about 30 lads under 22 starting in the Senior Championship.

Are goalkeepers allowed a larger bas? Or is that just something that was always assumed? That was one of the issues when bringing in the nash penalty rule

A go/nogo gauge. You’ll have difference in sizes between o Neil’s and cummans all stars gauges :joy:

I’d argue that that is more a result of the size and bulk needed to grapple with the teams such as Limerick who mullock their way to victory. It takes lads a few more years to bulk up enough to compete.

if you introduce a standardized hurley but goalies are exempt then all that’ll happen is teams will let the goalie wallop the frees from 80 yards and pretty much make a mockery of the rule

Except he wouldn’t be allowed use the goalkeeping one for frees

it’s getting silly now.

Good point, I wasn’t sure if a rule exists or not. I agree that all players should have a standard size

And that’s a big problem.

You’ll have 18-21 year olds running the show for their countries at the Euro’s over the next few weeks.

Galway set the bar in 2017 with their conditioning.

Most keepers used to puc the ball out with a different hurl to the frying pan.
