Stuff of the decade
I’d imagine that most of those are albums that people own but don’t actually listen to anymore. “Event albums” I’ve heard them being called. For example, the Shins album was very influential but only has about 5 good songs on it. Stuff like the Rapture and Crystal Castles too. The Streets. The Klaxons. They had about 1 good track. The rest was utter shite.
Nice to see At the Drive-In there but I would also argue that album tails off and has no place as the 11th best album of the decade.
What would you have as your album(s) of the decade Thrawneen?

The Streets, especially the first album, was absolutely class. Listened to it again recently and nearly every song on it is a belter. Would have it in my top ten of all time.

Sufjan’s Michigan or Illinois
Robert Plant & Alison Kraus
Of Montreal - any of 3 of their previous 4 albums
The Ruby Suns - Sealion
Chromeo
A-Trak -Dirty South Dance
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Matthew Herbert - Scale
Islands - Return To The Sea
Beach House - Beach House
the Earlies - These Were The Earlies
Beirut - Gulag Orkestra
The Radio Dept.
Midlake - Trials of
Malajube
Scissor Sisters
Keren Ann- any album
Camille - Le Fil
Mazarin - We’re Already There
Love is All - Love is All

That’s just the last few years of albums that I find pretty much flawless the whole way through. I can’t think back to the early 2000s at this stage of the week.

Stacks of those I haven’t heard.

I have been meaning to listen to that Beach House album properly. May put it on the ipod this evening actually.

I wouldn’t be a huge fan of Of Montreal I must say from what I have heard but that isn’t much granted.

They’re all cracking albums, imo. Beach House are perfect for this weather actually. Though maybe not for a monday-depression day.
Of Montreal…the lad is a genius but a bit insane. They’ve incredible hooks, harmonies, choruses though I’m not really liking where they’re going, away from guitar-pop. Satanic Panic in the Attic is the best place to start if you’re interested.
They were part of the Elephant 6 thing with Neutral Milk Hotel so they’ve good credentials.

You into the Fiery Furnaces at all? There is another insane genius - Matthew Friederburger. I have two of their albums - Rehearsing the choir and Gallowsbird Bark (or something like that). Haven’t really listened much to the latter but the former is a smashing album worth listening to if only for the superb opener which features lyrics from Friederberger’s grandmother over an instantly cathcy hook.

I downloaded a song from Of Montreal called Lyseric Bliss or something like that - listened to the rest of that album on itunes and wasn’t blown away by it or anything.

Fair enough, it’s a little Beach Boysy. Maybe that put you off?

The last time I heard Fiery Furnaces was in a music shop in Melbourne. I asked to listen to it on the headphones but I though it was a little wilfully obtuse. Probably needs a few listens. I’ll keep them in mind.

Didn’t listen to it more than a couple of times. Sometimes happens and it’s weird because I listened to Gulag a huge amount. I’ll come back to it sometime. There was an EP too, Lon Gisland, which I did listen to and was excellent.

Yeah the EP ws great, couldn’t get into “the Flying Club Cup” at all. Was wondering if it was just me.
I am absolutely disgusted at the fact that during this decade, Margaret Thatcher has had 10 years of opportunity to die, and hasn’t. I find it most annoying and insensitive of her. Thankfully this decade will see her off, though I’m hoping for it to be early, as in Jan 1st 2010.

SS, I’m sorry to hear about your cat.
Wait no more, Fitzy.

Sorry to hear about your cat as well SS.

Daniel Taylor picked his England national team XI of the decade and included Danny Welbeck in it.

I hope to god this is wummery

Pretty shit decade aside from the 2018 WC for England
