Stupid Commentator / Pundit Comments 2008 Calendar Year

Saw the last 10 minutes of CL highlights on RT last night which was 5 minutes of Chelsea analysis and then a couple of minutes of highlights of two games with 12 goals between them. Fucking ridiculous.

Why did Messi start tonight and not at the weekend? Was he injured/rested then?

I posted about this over on the CL thread. They actually showed Chelsea highlights from 10pm to 10.45pm before having a 5 minute or so analysis of them and then they showed a 3 minute round up of the 6 other games which contained 20+ goals between them. It’s actually mad. On their Saturday night EPL show they get Magee, Egan, Canning, Eames etc along with Hamilton and Maloney to commentate so they’ve a presence across the games so I don’t see why they can’t do that. I’d personally prefer to watch 8-10 minutes highlights from each of the other 6 games rather than 50 minutes of Chelsea. They were even showing things like players getting treatment, being lectured before being booked and strolling off gingerly to be susbstituted. Crap, lazy coverage - ‘we’ll concentrate almost solely on the English teams and show the bare minimum of the other games’.

Messi was rested at the weekend, similar to what Strachan had been doing with McGeady this season before his injury.

That was this thread Bandage. I was agreeing with your point anecdotally was all. I didn’t mean to steal your thunder.

Weird decision to rest Messi in a league game and then play him in CL when they were already through. Good as Barca have been this year they always struggle when he’s not there because teams play deep and Henry and Bojan don’t glide through tight defences the way Messi does.

Rough night for Lisbon.
They go 3-0 down to Barcelona at home.
Score twice in two minutes to bring it back to 3-2 and then almost immediately concede an OG and end up losing 5-2.

Ya he was rested against Getafe for “precautionary reasons”.

Andy Gray yesterday

“You know Martin, if this Arsenal team were able to go out and play Chelsea in a game with no tackling, I’d think you’d see some great football being a played. But since there’s tackling allowed in this game I think they might just struggle”

Andy Gray is some gimp in fairness.

That utter clown Andy Burton to Owen Coyle on Sky Sports just now:

‘They’re going to be calling this Capital Punishment III - Fulham, Chelsea and now Arsenal.’

Oh dear.

Pat Dolan last night:

At the moment Benitez favours Torres more than Keane, but I have a feeling that if Keane starting scoring more goals that Torres then Benitez would start to like Keane more.

Pat obviously has some very good sources in Anfield.

Paul Parker on Newstalk Friday night compared Wayne Rooney to
“a kid in the park who doesn’t like the way the game is going so takes his jumper home with him”

Ronaldo after todays win in semi final of the Club World Cup “The most important thing is the 3 points”

This from 30 December 2008. John Glynn (I think that’s his name) of Sky Sports commenting on the Barney Baxter darts match.

‘This could well be the match of 2009 that is being played in 2008’

John Gwynne’s his name - he’s a fooking nutter. Great quote from him.

Guy on Setanta “Keaney looks in great shape, definite six pack there”.

Ok mate, pull your trousers back up.

In relation to a black card being shown early in the game for a tackle on Keaney…

“Good refereeing”

Five mins later…

“Should definitely have been yellow”

This probably should have gone into the 2009 thread. Dickhead.
