Summer 2012 Transfer window thread

Heerenveen have replaced the guy that joined Liverpool earlier with Helsingborgs’ top scorer, Finbogasson. Can’t be bad for Celtic.

MON at his best. What kind of contracts have been given to these two lads? Both ridiculously injury prone too.

They are dreadful to watch. Larsson, Cattermole, Gardner and McClean across the
middle. JOS, Brown, Cuellar and Bardsley across the back. Free flowing football it won’t be

Maybe Pololski has matured since then or maybe he is one of these players that performs better at a smaller club. Certainly his record last season indicates he is back to his best scoring form but before that it wasn’t spectacular.

Cazorla is a cracking player and should dovetail nicely with Arteta. The saviour of the English midfield will be another for another while out injured it seems and Gervinho was woeful last season. I take what your saying that the loss of RvP will give others a chance to step up and that creating chances has never been a problem. But the message it sends out to supporters and prospective new players isn’t good. Arsenal have a huge problem with lack of presence in midfield which someone like De Jong would be a good replacement for Song. I think moving Vermaelen to left back and signing a brute at centre half is worth considering too

Gaston Ramirez to Southampton :o

The 21-year-old had been approached by Tottenham, Liverpool and Inter Milan earlier this summer.
But now newly-promoted Southampton are on the verge of a huge coup by landing the midfielder, who has just played at the Olympics for Uruguay.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins was looking for a big name attacking midfielder and had failed with a bid for PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch international Jeremain Lens, but he switched his attentions to Ramirez and looks to have got his man.
Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese has brokered the deal, which is believed to be worth €15million (£11.8million).
Ramirez has confirmed he is ready to fly to England to conclude a move to St Mary’s.
“Bologna will tell me on Friday if I can move,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.
“The truth is that I think, yes, this time I am moving. Bologna has reached an agreement with Southampton, and there are only a few details to be found but the agreement in principle is done.”
Ramirez admits that Southampton have offered him very good terms, and he is happy to become a key player for them.
"The English club has reached an agreement with me, it is the classic offer that you cannot refuse for my life as a whole and my family.
"But they believe in me in every way, I will be essential and above all they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top-flight but they will become a big team in years to come.
“They have told me they are going to build and that is very stimulating.”

It’s looking like Arsenal are back in the race and favourites to land Sahin again.

€15m seems like a very reasonable fee for Ramirez, I’d have thought he’d rather stay with Bologna than head to Southampton though.

 Ah that’s great banter. It’s a lovely trait to be able to poke fun at yourself.

In somewhat transfer relelated news BBC’s MOTD have landed the deal of the summer with 'Arry joining the team. I presume he will just drive his car into the studio and do his piece out the window.

you should try it

Egg on my face - that’s a belter.

Spurs are chasing Raul Meireles as a replacement for Modric

So AVB will have sold him and bought him twice in past 3 seasons if that comes to pass.

strange…he’s a totally differnt type of player to Modric…only thing they have in common is they both can go missing for long periods of the game…

I’m now hearing Benat is close to joining Wolfsburg for €10m.

Had a look at Wolfsburg’s squad there, looks pretty good - just lacking a few good attackers. They look strong in midfield and defence though. I don’t rate Magath as a coach, he’s a dinosaur. How would you rate their chances of a tilt at the Bundesliga?

Is this fella any good, Bandage?

I’m not Bandage, nor an expert on Dutch football like Bandage, but from what i’ve read he is a good player, has decent but not blistering pace, two footed and can play anywhere in the attack and also has a bit of trickery about him. Dutch football fans on twitter have all said it is a very shrewd signing and shows that B-Rod wasn’t spoofing when he said he was a big follower of football on the continent - Ajax had given him a contract last week and both PSV and PSG were monitoring him with Fulham and Galatasary also very interested in him. At £3m and £21,000 a week it is a gamble worth taking and a break away from the Premiership/British buys of last season.

I wouldn’t give them much chance at all to be honest. They’re a distance behind the big two - losing Mandzukic to Bayern is an illustration of that.

Magath is a very strange coach. Seems to work miracles at the start with a club then invariably falls out with everyone and it all turns horribly. Very old fashioned alright - he is fanatical about physical training.

Would be a good signing for Tottenham Spurs.
