Had he not fallen out with Mourinho? Think it was Malouda alright.
Can’t recall, he got a nasty injury his last season there and missed most of the second half of the season. It was one of Calderon’s promises that if he was elected president of Real that he would sign Robben so it came to pass
Giggs was quite average for United between 2004 and 2007. Robben in his second and third season at Chelsea was immense and was one of the best winger in the league at that time
Utd’s relationship with PSV was fairly poor at the time if I recall correctly. They felt that Utd were taking many of their best players (despite paying top price for them). They were more than happy to see Chelsea come in and gazzump Utd. Chelsea also paid the huge asking price for Essien without negotiation. Think it was around £24m.
Kenyon fucked up the Ronaldinho deal. Tried to change the terms of payment at the last minute which pissed off PSG.
The Essien opportuinity was around the time Lyon signed him from Bastia and not when Chelsea were in the market for him. Ferguson maintained he was too small and wouldn’t make it
Play with him I’d say.

Doesn’t appear to be a very accurate list. Gibson and Hargreaves listed as Utd players.
Well out of date, Abidal signed a new contract with Barca before Christmas as well.
Villa’s Stephen Ireland bound for New York
For months now it is no secret that former Chelsea and German star, Michael Ballack has seen his future in the MLS but according to agent Ballack’s agent Michael Becker one club who has made it clear that he won’t be playing for them is the New York Red Bulls.
Why would the struggling Bulls – only one goal in their opening games – not want such a majestic player as Ballack one might ask ? The answer from agent Becker is that he knows that Bulls General Manager, Erik Soler , has set his sights on luring Aston Villa and ex-Republic of Ireland star, Stephen Ireland to the MLS.
Becker told Goal.com that he could not understand Soler’s reasons, adding: “”Michael would love to play in New York. However, it seems that Soler already made massive promises to Stephen Ireland in October. This is an unbelievable incident,” Becker told Goal.com.
“There are a lot of places where Michael believes he would be a good fit, but in New York with Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez, that’s a title-winning team in his mind.”
Ballack is believed to be seen by many U.S managers as more of a holding midfielder whilst the Bulls clearly are looking for someone who can create scoring chances for the likes of Thierry Henry. Holding midfielder? Becker finds that view “offensive”.
“Ask Erik Soler why he thinks Ballack is a central defender or just a holding midfielder. It’s a pretty exclusive point of view,” Becker said.
“Why would you go for a no-name player who no one knows, who hasn’t started in months, when Michael Ballack is available?”
Of course Ireland is also ten years younger and no doubt Soler believes he would be around for much longer than Ballack.
Villa meantime will no doubt be holding out to recoup the 8 million they paid for Stephen who has only recently suggested that he might be interested in player for his country again. And indeed the saving of some 70,000 sterling a week might no doubt be another good reason why Villa might agree to a transfer on or close to their terms. Villa fan forums have mixed views – there are as many who would like him to stay as want him to go. This Stephen Ireland saga is likely to ‘run and run’.
Ballack meantime one feel sure will indeed be in the MLS League as Becker made clear to Goal.com
“July 16 [the day the MLS teams can sign players from abroad] is around the corner,” Becker said. “I’m sure you’ll see Michael playing somewhere in MLS at that stage.” Among those who have shown some interest it is believed are teams in Chicago, Montreal and Phildelphia
Podolski has passed a medical at Arsenal acc to reports. 10.9M, deal to be confirmed next week.
Chelsea are being linked with a €100 million double move for Ronaldo and Higuain. Hard to see Real even entertaining that considering Ronaldo cost the bones of that in the first place and has been sensational since he arrived
The only way Stephen Ireland could be compared favourably to Michael Ballack is that his off field antics and general cuntishness might generate more headlines in the US than a former superstar at the end of his career.
In a way Id be sorry to see a talent like Ireland leaving Villa. But there was 18 months where he did sweet fuck all for the club. In the last few, he has shown he has got plenty of ability. But he can be incredibly gutless at times. You might get away with that in a team where 9 or 10 others were giving it their all but some of the current VIlla squad havent given a shit since MON left. Ireland isnt good enough of a player to compensate for the fact that he is a complete liability without the ball. He hasnt got the heart to get into the box these days even. Anything that requires desire or guts, he is badly lacking. Good to find space turn on the ball and keep possession. Doesnt create enough chances or is enough of a goal threat to warrant a free role type of position imo. Maybe at a better side he would.
on the free transfer list above, the next manager at Anfield could do worse than getting Berbatov signed up. Would add far more than Andy Carroll ever would. I could see him working well with Suarez as he did with Keane. He never had much pace to begin with so dont think he would decline all that much over the next few years. Has given up international football too so would always be around.
Parma have agreed a deal for Sotiris Ninis and he will join them this summer.
Roma have declared interest in Dirk Kuyt, who I can see leaving at seasons end. He has been a great servant for the club and some where like Italy will be ideal for him as he begins to slow down.
I doubt there’s any interest from Roma in Kuyt, he doesn’t fit into our style of play and he’d be well down the pecking order as we’re well covered in attack. Sabatini denied reports linking us with Suarez and Palacio as he said we have other priorities than attack.
I wonder where Del Piero will end up this summer, he’d tear up in the Premiership if he went there, would be a good signing for the likes of Liverpool who are severely lacking in some craft and creativity.
Where do we reckon Mario will be next season?
I think he’s been angling for a move back to Italy for some time as he has admitted publicly that he misses Italy and his friends. The recent controversies, growing impatience of the City management, board and fans about his attitude coupled with Mancini’s uncertain future make it likely that he will go back to Italy this summer. Only a couple of clubs could attract Mario.
Milan - Boyhood Milan fan and Galliani is a big fan of his.
Inter - The club most strongly linked with him, never enjoyed a great relationship with the fans last time around but seems to be well liked by the club’s backroom team.
Juventus - As a hate-figure with the Juventus fans I’d say there is no chance of this happening.
Roma - He has insulted the city of Rome and Francesco Totti in the past, so again there is no chance of this happening.
Napoli - Highly unlikely they would be able to afford Balotelli.
It’s also very unlikely Mario will travel to Euro 2012 now, Prandelli has a code of ethics about players getting sent off and such and he has persistently warned Balotelli to keep his discipline.
