Summer 2012 Transfer window thread

What position have United in mind for Kagawa. Having seen him a few times I don’t think he’d be suitable for the way United play, he’s not a winger in that sense and I don’t see him playing a deeper central role, will they play him off Rooney up front? Kagawa has been strongly linked with Milan also.
City have supposedly made a move for Eden Hazard.

Utd are also poised to sign the Jap kagawa
Wouldn’t be surprised if city move for Hazard but where will he play? They surely wouldn’t drop Silva?

Kagawa would be an interesting signing. Cheap option though which is worrying for Utd, it would indicate that funds are not as plentiful as some would claim.

Was reading about potential formations this morning if Kagawa was to sign. Would have to change from 4-4-2/4-5-1 which Utd currently play. Most suggesting 4-2-3-1 with

Carrick/Pogba -Scholes/Cleverly
Valencia/Nani -Kagawa-Young
Rooney

Dortmund today confirmed that Kagawa will be leaving. Turned down 48k a week to accept 96k a week according to Michael Zorc (Director of Football).

Can’t argue with that.

Michael Zorc - I’d forgotten he existed. Didn’t know he was at Dortmund.

Will Reus be Kagawa’s replacement Rocko or will they now sign someone else to fill his void? It’s a shame they will now have lost Kagawa and Sahin in consecutive seasons. I presume Gotze will now take up Kagawa’s role with Reus slotting in on one of the wide positions. Is Gotze more natural in the centre or out wide? From the little bits I’ve seen from him I think a more central role is suited to him so the loss of Kagawa will probably be offset by the flourishing of Gotze. Am I right in saying Gotze has been predominantly used as a wide player for Dortmund?

I heard you mention Leitner a few times before, Rocko. Can you provide some more information about him, as in what kind of midfielder he is and how good could he be?

I presume Dortmund will look to resign Sahin in the summer. He surely won’t remain at Real unless they are going to give him considerably more gametime

I think Leitner is only 18. He’s not as attacking as any of those others mentioned so wouldn’t really be a direct replacement.

Barring any new signings it’s probably Reus who would move centrally. Gotze then would be on one wing and either Perisic or Blaszycketc. on the other wing. Neither Gotze nor Reus are perfectly suited to playing in the same role as Kagawa but Reus is a better goalscoring threat and tends to leave his wing more anyway.

I think having lost Sahin and Kagawa, though they don’t play the same position, they’ll have lost too much of their central axis to be as competitive if they don’t get someone else in. Gundogan, Bender and Kehl are all options for the deeper role (and Leitner) but none are as effective as Sahin was (yet) and losing Kagawa too would place too much responbsibility on their wide players I think.

And they have the great Fenian Kevin Grosskreutz too of course.

Lucas Podolski to Arsenal CONFIRMED.

Looks as though Arjen Robben could be on his way out of Bayern in the summer, contract talks have broke down and he had a dressing room bust up with Ribery as well. Bayern might try and get a few pound for him as he only has 12 months on his contract

They already have Shaqiri so they’re protected a bit but they’d obviously prefer to keep him. Olic is on his way to Wolfsburg, they’re linked with Giroud (along with half of Europe) as a replacement.

Van Bommel looks set to return to PSV this summer while reports in Italy claim Pogba has agreed to join Juventus.

Could be a mass exodus of stars from the Budesliga this season with Marin and Podolski already off and Kagawa looking likely to leave as well. I think Robben will end up staying, where is his most likely option if he doesn’t? Juventus?

Juve have been linked alright and would seem most likely.

Wouldn’t read too much into the other departures particularly if Dzeko, Giroud etc join BL clubs.

Who is Dzeko being linked with?

Dortmund

Any indication of whether he’s willing to take the wage cut necessary to move there or will City offer Dortmund handouts much like they are doing with the likes of Spurs?

It’s only at the tentative rumour stage.
