Why those clubs pay it is the big question.
Arsenal have enough middling home grown players to fill the quota so they don’t need to be going out spunking £50m on someone as average as White or Ramsdale.
That was the buy out clause in the contract. City were willing to pay it…
A lot of England club managers seem to want to have a English spine to the team to some degree.
They’re also less likely to want to go and play in Spain or Italy if they can get success closer to home.
