Boylesports cashing in on the Irish factor at Sunderland. Anyone think that Sunderland can be a force in English football? They have a decent support which gives them potential and an ambitious board and manager. Against that they’ve no international profile and a very average squad.
Sunderland land new sponsor deal
Sunderland have agreed a four-year sponsorship deal with independent Irish bookmakers Boylesports, which could be worth in excess of 10m.
Boylesports will become the official sponsor, with its name on Black Cats shirts, from the end of the season.
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn said: "It is fantastic that Boylesports have taken this leap of faith to support us.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be joining forces to drive the club forward in the next four years.”
It’s hard to know about Sunderland themselves but I presume Boyle Sports are only thinking about raising their profile in England rather than feeling any obligation to the game here.
Interesting end to that article - the implication being that Paddy Power will be lending their marketing expertise to St Pat’s and not just handing over the cash for the name on the jersey.
If there is a relationship between the two organisations then it could work very well for Pat’s. When Bohs and Shels move out they’ll have a large city centre-ish catchment area for themselves with everyone else out in suburbia.
