Sunderland

Waddle or Walker?

Huh ?

Have a terrible record in play-offs. Solid results as of late, if unspectacular football. Would be concerned for Sunderland if they went behind and had to chase the game. New manager has built the side around being solid at the back and have been less effective going forward.

He does seem to be able to switch things up in-game though.

Word is Barry Bannan might be out for Wednesday, which would be a massive loss for them.

Owls expected starting team:

Pressman;
Petrescu, Walker, Pearson, Hinchcliffe;
Palmer, Sheridan;
Carbone, Di Canio, Waddle;
Hirst.

Sheffield Wednesday have been in the doldrums so long lads in their 20s probably think of them like we would have Barnsley or Huddersfield.

I’m so focused on our game that i chose to ignore the other semi final. We’ll hammer Wycombe or their semi final opponents at Wembley. I’m sure of it

Regi Blinker will be seething

Paul Warhurst first sub. Play at the back or up front

I’d have Nilsson at right back for his pace alone

Di Canio in that, iconic

Sheffield Wednesday had an absolutely smashing team in the early 90s.

As an aside Oldham became the first Premier League team to be relegated to the Conference last month. They also had a smashing team. Earl Barrett, Ian Marshall and more.

I recall them going on a spending spree around 1993 bringing Des Walker back from Sampdoria and England international Andy Sinton in from QPR.

Denis Irwin, Ian Dowie, off top of my head. Can’t remember the name of the keeper they had then.

I recall Gunnar Halle performing heroics on the plastic Boundary Park pitch to seal a final day relegation escape against Matt Le Tissier’s Southampton. Think it was a wild 4-3 or 3-2 and fans streamed onto the pitch at full time to swarm the players and Joe Royle, who punched the air in relief and delight. Paul Gerrard was their young and highly rated keeper, he went on to join Everton and was underwhelming. Rick Holden was a slow winger with a cultured left foot. They were a thing back then. Ian Woan at Forest was another one.

Paul Gerrard couldn’t kick the ball, they found at Everton. The back pass rule changed around then and it was a problem.

Mike Milligan running their midfield and couldn’t get near the Ireland squad for most of that time.
