Super Blues 2013

Limerick up to 5th in the table…

Just back from Turners Cross.

Massive win.Get in. Especially for those of us on Limerick at 17/10. :pint:

Made hard work of it but got there in the end. An awful mistake by Aaron Brown gifted Denis Behan the lead. Replied with two almost identical headers, both from free kicks awarded on the left wing. Cork then had a player sent off for a lunging tackle and, at half time, with a goal and man advantage we looked comfortable. Like all season looked nervous when we took the lead though.

Very sloppy in the second half and got punished. Dave O’Leary made it 3-2 and we held on after a late onslaught. Barry Ryan made one excellent stop and Cork missed an absolute sitter too, one on one and he blazed it over. Awful miss.

Pat O’Sullivan and his wife were sitting in front of me at the match, they did as much shouting encouraging and criticising the players as anyone!! He’s a top man.

I sat behind Pat at an away game in Longford last season. Hilarious. You can’t fault his passion anyway. In fairness to him he is trying to build the club in the right way. They now have teams from under 8’s and up and they doing some great work across the working class communities of Limerick by all accounts. Of course, this all goes over the head of a typical Munster bandwagoner no doubt.

great to hear

irish football needs a strong Limerick

The likes of Faldos who’s football experience is going down pub for some hotpot and ale on a sunday are lost but the young kids getting attached to the club can be saved from faldo and mcnultys pitiful fanboyism

Despite working long hours all this week, I am hoping to finish up early today and make it along to the most important sporting fixture in our nation’s capital this weekend. A raucous atmosphere is expected at the UCD bowl this evening as the mighty Super Blues look to bounce back against the resurgent students after a disappointing midweek result at Thomond Park.

I’ve been crippled with panic all week regards securing my ticket for this one, however I’m confident I can negotiate a decent price from FingalRaven’s brother outside the ground prior to kick off.

Best of luck in your quest Phil.

Need a result tonight. Couldn’t make the Drogheda match midweek but apparently it was their worst display of the season, even if conditions were very poor.

Shane Tracey puts us 1 up after 4 mins.

1-1

UCD won at Derry last week, not the worst result to get a point up there in fairness. At the start of the season would have been delighted with midtable mediocrity. Can’t wait for the Sligo game next Friday.

Me either. I’m gonna brick their bus.

Had more than enough decent chances to have won it last night. Curran missed an absolute sitter with about 10 minutes to go. Saying that UCD had their opportunities to nick it also in the last 20 minutes.

Our defence is looks very shakey at times and the injuries are mounting up. O’Leary, Kelly and Purcell all taken off injured last night :frowning:

Then there are all the suspensions as another player saw the line as Judge was sent off for sticking a head in a lad

A draw would be a great result against Sligo as it looks like Taylor will have to play plenty of the under 19’s next Friday. All a little worrying now to have such a slim squad as Bray and UCD seem to be finding some form.

Would snap your hand off right now to finish the year mid table and clear of any relegation battles. I definitely think our early season mojo has evaporated quite a bit

Big game tonight.

I would be shocked if we even secured a draw. The team is crippled with injuries and suspensions at the moment and those that are available would have played in the cup game on Monday night that went to extra time and penos.

Injury list not as bad as expected in the end. Come on limerick !!

Decent result for the Blues.

It was kid. Great night outside.

What kinda gates have they been averaging?

Just back from the match.

Absolutely delighted with a point. Elding probably won’t miss a chance like that (the one at the start of the second half) again all season. Weathered the storm at one stage in the second half but for the rest of it I felt we were worth a point. Definitely one gained rather than two dropped.

We missed Curran up front, lacked his physicality. Axel did his best but he is not a target man which you need in a 4-5-1 system. Gaffney did well when he came on. Still lacking an imposing, no nonsense centre half or two - we give up chances too easily and you always feel there is a mistake in the centre halves. In saying that it was a clean sheet so hopefully it’s the start of a few of them.

Did Axel handle the ball for the disallowed goal in the first half? Someone around me said he definitely handled it, others said it came up off his thigh?

The dream of the cup double lives on. 2-0 up away to Glenville today, Gaffney with a brace.

EDIT : 3-0 now, Stephen Bradley with the third.
