Oh i donât doubt it, and he seems dead on, but just sometimes it needs a freshening up
Bearing in mind they finished second from bottom I donât think itâs at all out of order that theyâd consider a fresh face as manager, thatâs no slight on Barrett but itâs probably for the best
Just hope the fine Limerick TFKers get behind this entity
Limerick people very poor to get behind LOI soccer, especially first division. Got to a few games this year when we moved back and attendances very poor. Seems to be more interest in junior soccer.
Yeah, I suppose thereâs more of a connection with those junior teams, especially in the city- theyâd get decent enough attendances.
The LOI side gets a surge of popularity every now and then but they have to find out who theyâre trying to market to. Like, Treaty have had a few run-ins with some of the actual diehards who will go to every game⌠not sure thatâs the best move either.
TBF the current ownership drove off all the hardcore fans.
Hopefully the limerick name coming back can be the start of something.
I canât talk havenât been to a game in yonks. Although Iâm on a promise to bring the young lad in some evening
Tommy was working small miracles there for a few years. But supposedly they spent a few bob on wages this year and it got worse.
Now they are a long way behind the Corks and Brays spending wise.
Yerrah the whole thing is a money pit anyways. Theyâll be bust and another name in a few years.
Galway and Limerick people are sunshiners for sure.
These Canadians who bought them seem to be pure half arsed about it.
Surely they understand they have to spend the money to get to premier to have any hope of making anything out of it.
They are running it like a supporters owned club.
They seem to have spent a lot of money on the womenâs team. Which in itself isnât a bad idea I think. Thereâs nice money in Europe for womenâs if you can get there vs what you might spend and the realistic chance of actually getting to Europe. But they seem to half arsing that too. They need to go all in on one really to make a go of it.
I donât see how they plan on making money out of it really. They didnât even get a ground when they bought it. Now the rent is nominal enough I think. But still itâs not an asset and you can spin up any secondary income from it
Attendance problems predated that. Few seasons when they were back up Premier it was better alright.
Soccer is huge in limerick city. Bigger than anything including hurling. Itâs an absolute failure on successive ownerships that they have never figured out a way to tap into it.
Itâs definitely a very wishy washy support for the LOI team, maybe due to the fact that the team itself rarely stays going for long so it never builds any loyalty. But thatâs a bit of a chicken and egg thing too.
I donât know how you fix it, but itâs definitely fixable. Thereâs a load of soccer hipsters in limerick who would love to be pretending they like league of ireland and a load of hardcore real limerick soccer people who could be brought back. I donât see it happening anytime soon though.
Unless you are winning you are at nothing in limerick.
People donât have the time/interest/money to follow multiple teams.
Exactly in fairness.
If Limerick had done what Waterford have and reached the FAI cup final.
Youâd suddently have 10,000 Limerick die hards arriving at the Aviva
Would the real hardcore not prefer to follow Fairview Rangers or Pike Rovers etc?
They would because thatâs what they have. Theyâd follow limerick if they were brought back to it. It would be only natural. But they need to brought back and kept. Hard to do for sure. But the people are there to get.
The problem is a successful Limerick senior team would be a magnet to the best players from Pike , Fairview etc
I started going to games here when I moved into town. Was surprised to see games played in Rathbane, where Iâd played a schoolboy game, and in Jackman Park. I kept hearing the line âif we ever got back to the Markets Field, itâll be different. The city will get behind themâ, despite the fact they were gone 20 years at that stage.
I went as a kid to Rathbane a lot. It was great⌠very good crowds and quality players visiting.
Used to go to Jackman park on Friday nights in the late 00s. It was good craic but awful too⌠bad football, small crowds - but full of characters.
Itâs a shame they didnât stay up the last time in Div 1 as they were building momentum but it seems it would have collapsed regardless off the field.
