Super Bowl 50: The Road to Santa Clara
It’s well known that Richard Sherman only plays one side of the field, he doesn’t shadow the other teams #1 WR like a conventional #1 CB would. This means that Byron Maxwell has been routinely marking the other teams main man for the last couple of seasons.

He has been going one on one with the games elite WRs in regular season, play off games and Super Bowls and more than holding his own.

That is why he is the consensus #1 free agent CB this year and that is why the Eagles are going to pay him more than €10 million per annum.
That’s far too simplistic, verging on plain dumb if that is a genuine opinion.

In other news, Kap is on the trading block.

Ok pal, we’ll run with your opinion. Sherman marked every receiver and the free safety and the strong safety both covered Maxwell’s side of the field.

Amazing that Chip Kelly hasn’t sussed this.

Devin McCourty looks like he is going no where anyway. Texted Tom Curran with “I’m Back”.

Can you afford to keep Revis now?

yup. all the cap figures being touted is including Revis’ inflated $25m cap space. so its either he restructures that to long term, or goes and they get an additional $20m or so in cap.

edit: here’s a piece why it wont http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4778851/devin-mccourty-deal-shouldnt-restrict-patriots-with-darrelle-revis

More bad news for the 49ers. Patrick Willis expected to announce his retirement

Yeah, wtf? He’s 30, is he bet?

His toe injury has ruined him. It’s ironic seeing such a colossus felled by a toe injury.

Justin Smith has retired too! Smith, Willis. Gore and Harbaugh all gone from San Fran, team will be unrecognisable next season.

Fuck!.. Turf toe or lis franc?

Reportedly shopping kap too…

Only Bowman, Aldon Smith and Brooks remain from the D that started the Super Bowl 2 years ago

:(:(:frowning:

The 49ers are going nowhere. Serious penny pinching going on

Schefter saying they’re not picking up Revis’ option and he will be a free agent tomorrow.

Nothing surprising about that, they were never picking up that option. It’s if they can do a deal now is the big question.

Will be interesting to see what he does. He has his ring, he has also earned a boat load of cash since he’s been in the league. Looks like the Jets are going to offer him more than the Pats can, who will he sign with?

San Fran in a real crisis now,Iupati set to go and FB Bruce Miller arrested for battery this is like mr Burns power plant softball team.I’m genuinely depressed at all this the loss of Willis has broke me.

be very interesting alright. does he want success or money? McCourtys deal and what happened with that may even sway him. McCourty was offered more to go elsewhere, but chose to stay. In saying that though, he was a draft pick there for 5 years, whereas Revis is a veteran only there for one year and got his ring.

It sounds like its between the Jets and Patriots. And technically, he is still with the Patriots until 4pm eastern time today, so there is a bit of time to sort out any deal before he officially becomes a free agent. Browner is also free to talk to other teams too. I wouldnt be as disappointed if he left, good and all as he is, he is a middle tier corner back and easier to replace than Revis would be. Losing both would be an issue though.

I saw an interview with Revis pre Superbowl and not once did he say he wanted to stay in NE next year, he made it clear he was interested in money. I thought it was disgusting considering NE finally delivered a championship for him and he was welcomed into a locker room he had bad mouthed constantly when part of the gang green.
He had a fantastic year with NE but they are well rid of him imo, this isn’t a Lawyer Milloy leaving who was popular and a genuine team guy this is an individual out for himself.

would really disagree. Whilst Milloy was a great team player and a legend in the locker room, Revis is a far better player and it is worth his money grabbing attitude to keep his on field production (even if I do slightly disagree with that tag. Team mates have been more than complimentary about his attitude all season). I must not have seen that interview, as anything I have seen or heard from him has been the opposite.

Darrelle Revis unquestionably is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, but he hasn’t been able to turn his individual success into team glory yet. That was Revis’ prime concern as he entered free agency for the second time during his seven-year NFL career. Revis signed a one-year, $12 million contract this offseason to win a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. “I think that was the No. 1 priority,” Revis told ESPN’s Ed Werder in a recent sit-down interview at the Drew Brees Passing Academy at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Fla. “After I got released by Tampa Bay, was to go down the list of teams and see what’s the best opportunity for me to win. Every player in this league, that I can speak for, we all want to win a championship. That’s why we play this game. I thought the New England Patriots probably were the best fit for me.”
