Pretty much every bit of commentary ive seen on it blamed tua for the throw and not claypool for the route. There were 2 bills waiting for the football
I watched it through a flu addled lack of sleep but the last drive seemed to be 2 or three quick strike check downs for 6 or 7 yards aside from the Slant to Hill which got a PI call, then he overthrew Hill down the and almost left him open to a huge hit from Poyer.
Then on the interception he is throwing to Claypool in double coverage, it looked like it didn’t have a chance even if Claypool isn’t late on the route as Rapp read it perfectly. Those are the highly leveraged situations you pay a QB top dollar for. I think Tua is fairly middle of the road, they could possibly win a SB with him but you would feel everything else would need to be perfect, he isn’t going to overcome shortcomings in other areas of the team.
No, I agree mostly, he’s not truly elite but he’s a good system QB there and his game perfectly suits Hill, they have a good understanding.
In that last drive he seemed to be trucking along nicely, in fact Hill left two behind him.
To my eye it looks like Claypool’s timing was way off, just seemed to trail off in a forward direction rather than cut like I’d say he was meant to.
Maybe a poor enough throw but it was made look awful.
