This is absolutely shambolic. Apparently Dumervil was 7 minutes late signing the paperwork, and as far as I know this will mean Denver are saddled with nearly $5 million in dead money. Dumervil was signing a $8 million deal, it will be impossible to sign him on those terms now.

Maybe I’ve totally misread the situation, but this could be catastrophic for the Broncos who were having a cracking free agency until this debacle.
Fuckin Hell, just heard it was a fuck up by the agent but it’ll probably play out differently.

Elway playing a blinder once again by getting the pay cut agreed to. Hopefully they can clear it up.

Greg Jennings has signed with the Vikings.

Sounds like his agent made him hold out about 20 mins too long. Elway will have to consider other Defensive Ends on the market to avoid a salary cap hit.

Dumervil Released, Broncos Discussing Options

On Friday, defensive end Elvis Dumervil was released after a deadline was not met. The Broncos will assess their options in free agency.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Defensive end Elvis Dumervil has officially been released. On Friday, the three-time Pro Bowler and the Broncos agreed on a restructured contract to keep him in Denver, but the paperwork was not filed in time for the league’s waiver deadline.“At 1 p.m. MDT, we were informed by Elvis’ representative that he declined our offer," Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said in a statement. "We then prepared Elvis’ termination notice to officially file his release with the NFL office.“At approximately 1:25 p.m. MDT, however, we were informed that Elvis changed his mind and accepted the same contract we proposed nearly two-and-a-half hours earlier. Although we expressed our concern regarding the time constraints, we were assured that the signed documents would be submitted to us before the league’s waiver deadline.“But the Broncos did not receive a fax with Dumervil’s signature on it by the 2 p.m. MDT deadline, and the team was forced to release the seven-year veteran. Now, the team will assess all of its options in free agency, including the possibility of re-signing Dumervil.“Due to this situation, there are now salary cap implications associated with this transaction that we must consider with regard to potentially re-signing Elvis,” Elway said. "At this moment, we are discussing all of our free-agency options to determine what’s best for the Denver Broncos.”Dumervil ranks seventh on the Broncos’ career sack list with 63.5 quarterback takedowns, including a league-leading 17 in 2009, which was the franchise’s single-season record until linebacker Von Miller surpassed the mark in 2012.The defensive end and Miller combined for 29.5 sacks during the 2012 campaign, the most of any two teammates in the league. Among players with at least 40 sacks, Dumervil has averaged the fourth-most sacks per game – .70 – since he entered the league in 2006.In 91 regular-season games with 75 starts, the seven-year veteran also amassed 264 tackles, 17 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, 12 passes defensed and an interception. He now joins the free agent market alongside such defensive ends as Dwight Freeney, Richard Seymour, John Abraham and Osi Umenyiora. To read Elway’s full statement, click here.

Seriously though a fuckin fax machine in this day and age…some joke…

Id imagine he will resign for a pittance this year and get a big bonus on the first day of the league next year…

It bothers me the words resign and resign are identical and can mean completely different things…

statement from Dumervil’s Lawyer/Agent

The contract mix-up Friday that turned what was supposed to be a restructured contract for Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil into Dumervil’s release because the paperwork wasn’t transmitted in time was due in part to late changes to the financial details on the part of the Broncos, Dumervil’s agent Marty Magid told USA TODAY Sports.
Magid claims the team changed the terms of the contract the sides had been negotiating all week and didn’t send him a correct copy of the final deal until after 3:30 p.m. EDT — less than a half hour before the deadline to submit the new contract to the league office in New York before his full salary of $12 million for 2013 became guaranteed.
AIN’T OVER YET: Ed Reed might remain a Raven yet
FRIDAY’S MOVES: Dustin Keller goes to Dolphins
Magid claims the Broncos initially had told him that, in exchange for chopping $4 million off of Dumervil’s 2013 base salary, the team would add $500,000 to his 2014 base salary of $10 million while also fully guaranteeing $3.5 million of that figure.
Magid said instead, when the new deal was presented shortly after 1 p.m. EDT Friday, the language had been changed to only guarantee the $3.5 million for injury. The Broncos said they made the change because Dumervil had taken all week to accept their offer, according to Magid.
In other words, per Magid’s account, the team would have been able to cut Dumervil after this upcoming season without owing him a dime.
The Broncos changed the language because they signed a handful of free agents and had committed more money toward 2014 than they had when they made their original offer to Dumervil.
“That stopped all the negotiations. We had to restart,” Magid said. “I had to explain it to him what this meant for him. He took some time to think about it and, in the end, he said, ‘I’ll take it. I’ll go back and play for it and show them what a great player I am.’”
By Magid’s recollection, this was shortly before 3:30 p.m. EDT.
It was 3:30 p.m. EDT exactly when the first report of Dumervil’s agreeing to a pay cut broke.
“Per team source, Dumervil REMAINS a Denver Bronco!!!,” Michelle Beisner of the NFL Network tweeted.
Roughly 3 minutes later, Magid sent a text to USA TODAY Sports that read, “He is a bronco if we get paperwork.”
Magid claims the first contract sent to him by Broncos director of football administration Mike Sullivan contained a smaller base salary in the final year of the contract (2015) than he believed the team had offered. Magid said Sullivan then resent the contract via email with a new, higher number.
Magid was in his office in Pennsylvania. Dumervil was in Miami, headed for a Kinko’s, according to Magid.
Magid claims Dumervil sent a fax but the Broncos gave him a second fax number because the fax wasn’t coming through. Magid said Dumervil told him a fax was transmitted at 3:55 p.m. EDT, and that Dumervil has a confirmation to prove it.
(USA TODAY Sports requested a copy of the receipt and email transmissions. Magid said he would provide them.)
Regardless, it was too late for the team. They informed Magid they had to release his client instead of triggering the $12 million guarantee.
“Twenty-three minutes to read it, scan it, fax it, get Elvis to a machine and get it through,” Magid said. “We tried.”
The Broncos surely feel Magid and Dumervil tried too late, and that they had given them ample opportunity to work out a deal earlier in the week.
Now, Dumervil is a free agent. Whether he’ll be a Bronco again remains to be seen. The team took a salary-cap hit of nearly $5 million and now has less than $8 million in cap space. So even if they wanted to sign Dumervil to the same deal they had offered, they wouldn’t be able to do so right now without clearing some space first.

Dumervil has changed agents since yesterday, the plot thickens.

he could only do that if his last agent consented if not he would have to wait 5 days, so obviously the agent is trying to get out of this with some kind of reputation.

PAts could come in for him, theyre looking for a pass rusher, he could do worse than resign for fuck all…and get paid next year…albeit he’s getting older and pass rushers decline quite quickly…

Colts could be on the lookout to with Freeney talking to the devil

be a great signing for the colts.

The Indianapolis Colts are on a defensive spending spree.

Less than 24 hours after adding Pro Bowl safety LaRon Landry to the roster, the Colts struck two more deals, this time landing San Francisco defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois and re-signing cornerback Darius Butler.

Earlier today they also resigned ex-bronco Cassius Vaughn.

There were also strong rumours that the Colts were looking to make a trade for Victor Cruz after Isray tweeted “it’s a wide receiver” in reference to a BIG news trade. Sadly though reports are that Isray has said it’s not Cruz.

Picked up hasselback as a back up QB.

Yeah, hardly worthy of a mention I thought.

The anti-Jets bias on here from some posters is sickening. Every other signing gets a mention but when the Jets tie down long-snapper Tanner Purdum to another year there’s barely a whisper. Izdik is doing a terrific job with the team and it’s obviously upsetting a few of the Patriots fanboys.

Hasselbeck is an excellent pick up for the Colts. He knows the west coast offence inside out and will be a great mentor to Andrew Luck.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has gone to the Titans.

Elvis Dumervil is rumoured to be going to the Ravens. That would be quite a coup for Ozzie Newsome if he pulled that off.

its better to stick the head in the sand rocko than face up to reality of what the Jets are doing. Purdom will be a huge signing for the Jets, and with the whole debacle over the Welker loss, Purdom could well be the signing that pushes the jets back to the top of the AFD East pile. But you cant blame the Patriots fans for not acknowledging this, it was like getting 2 kicks to the balls in succesive attempts, with Welker and Lloyd leaving, and then the Jets getting Purdom, the balance of power has swung hugely to the efficient and business like Jets.

Giants did some good work at the weekend with the acquisition formoer oakland TE Brandon Myers, nice pick up instead of that many cunt bennett.

also picked up louis Murphy WR, who will hopefully be 4th choice so long as cruz stays around.

The Cowboys and Dolphins will contest this years hall of fame game on August 3rd

Latest rumour on the Colts mystery WR is Edelman!!

Urlacher released by the Bears.

The tuck rule has now been removed (along with some other rules about tackling).
