Sure they’re just going home.

Was hoping they’d go to Vegas
The Raiders seem to have that move sown up already.
Better still
Good stuff, I’m looking forward to this.
Looks like the Chargers will be playing in LA Galaxy’s stadium, this is tragic for a NFL team.

McVay gets the Rams gig.
What’s the logic behind the Chargers move? Thought they’d have a better chance of a decent following in San Diego whereas they’ll be lost in LA.
Rumours spanos will try and sell them, way bigger potential market, LA attractiveness etc adds hundreds of millions to a price tag.
@Blake unleash the beast inside of you
Thought the Rams move would have shown up all the negatives that come with it. They’re both lost in a city that size. Maybe new stadium will improve things I guess.
Their stadium is decrepit and they wanted the San Diego tax payers to pony up the money for a new Stadium as their owner is a notorious cheapskate and he has decided to upsticks and leave town
Thanks. Had read about the new stadium bit but completely forgot about it. Some awful messing going on.

While I’m fully aware of the fact that I have no attachment to the city of San Diego beyond supporting their former football team, its very hard not to feel for the people there and the loyal fans who have had their hearts ripped out by this. They’ve been fucked over here big time, by a team owner family that has been collecting their dollars for decades.
The City of San Diego shares a portion of the blame too. They played hard ball and lost. AG Spanos put forward a stadium plan in 2003 that was very favourable to the city, and it was rejected out of hand. But that was at the very start of the stadium saga and it was debatable at the time whether a stadium that had just hosted the Super Bowl needed replacement. In the last 2 years the city has come to the table earnestly with their best deal, a position that put a stadium deal within touching distance.
The Chargers have had the opportunity to deal with a mayor in the last few years who unlike predecessors was in favour of getting a deal done and using some public money to do so. They hired an utter cunt of a snake to head up the stadium effort on their end, and his public actions spoiled a lot of the goodwill among the population. They had to hire another consultant to smooth things over when they went with the ballot measure, but it was too late.
Spanos had been given an extension on the LA option, enough time to get a outline deal in place in San Diego. He didn’t bother to do that, and just took the easy option. I know it’s a business, but the bad faith and dishonesty he showed was rotten. It is a betrayal of the city. Part of the problem is that Spanos isn’t really rich enough to be an NFL owner, but the bottom line is that there was a deal to be done in San Diego that would’ve made everyone happy, but Spanos has opted to look after himself only. The move has taken the NFL by surprise, they believed the City had done enough to keep the team, and I think that says a lot.
