you should take the view of lapsed poster @Sandymount_Red to the situation, Brady could get more money if he wanted, but it’s not all about money with him. Is it better to be winning superbowls and leaving a legacy? Or to get paid a few million more, cripple a team and fade out into obscurity?
Yes, he was certainly spot on with his analysis there and it has stood the test of time.
But Tom’s contract has got even more team friendly in the intervening years, he’s the 12th highest paid QB in the game. That’s not right, it actually stinks.
There’s no way anyone would leave that much jam on the table. What has dodgy Bob Kraft offered him in return for this?
his money went up since then, but so did the cap. I think its more a case of dumb teams overpaying average players. If the Texans want to pay Osweiler 70 odd million after 7 starts, then thats them being stupid. Brady has more than enough off field shit advertising that comes about from his status. Unless the NFL want to count advertising revenue as part of salary or something, then there is fuck all changing with his contract with the Patriots. Lots of talk over the weekend of a 3-5 year extension.
Manning did the same at Indy to free up cap space in the hope they’d be more competitive. Brady doesn’t need money and despite his success he strikes me as humble enough guy in NFL terms anyway
Did he? I was nearly sure he had 2 contracts resigned and broke highest paid records with that. And that the only restructure he did was instead of getting 10m or so in a bonus, he restructured to get it as guaranteed signing which meant it could be spread over 4 or 5 years rather than one hit. So he never actually took a pay cut, just moved money for the cap. Manning is also a million miles ahead in career earnings.
I’ve no doubt he was willing to give the Pats a home town discount to aid the team. But it’s got ridiculous at this stage of the game and he’s left about $20 million on the table.
He’s not rich enough or dumb enough to do that.
If he signs a new lucrative bumper contract then maybe I’ll start believing. But the whole situation does not look right to me.
but would you not think that its somewhat refreshing, as sandymount pointed out above, to see a player put the team ahead of his own personal gains? Plus the more playoffs or superbowls he gets to/wins, the more money he makes then, and the base salary he may leave on the table ends up getting to him anyway in bonus money and further endorsements etc as a result? Probably more of a gamble on his part, but worth it.
That was the old contract Gman, so you are being quite disingenuous here. As a wise priest once said, it’s a different film Ted, it’s a different shark.
When you continuously sell yourself short, get paid well below market rate and leave tens of millions on the table then of course eyebrows are going to be raised and questions are going to be asked.
not sure I get you. He is currently on more money than from that previous contract. The one from above was a 27m 3 year deal. He is currently on a 2 year 41m deal.
He even restructured it to get guaranteed money because of the impending suspension, as if he had a high base salary, then he would lose the pay check for 4 games. so by taking a higher guaranteed and a lower base salary, he lost fuck all money (relatively speaking) during suspension. Its still the basic concept as previous, he is getting way below the market value, but its comparative to what it was then too. As I said, if other teams are happy to pay donkeys a heap of money, that’s on them. I’m not sure what eyebrows or questions need to be asked though? Do you reckon he is being paid millions under the table or something like the GGA managers here or something?
The Falcons have sacked their DC Richard Smith. Seems like a ridiculous over-reaction considering how much that unit improved during the year. Still, I suppose someone had to take the rap with Shanahan headed to San Fran.
absolutely, particularly in the playoffs. Their defence was not at all helped by the offence. The offence didnt sustain any real long drives. The time of possession was massively stacked in the Patriots favour and you could clearly see the defence was tiring and didnt get near the same amount of pressure as they were in the first half. They needed the offence to keep the ball and keep them off the field. I wouldnt be blaming their defence as much as their offence for the collapse
Irish TV showed the Waterford Intermediate Football final (played in November) in its entirety last night. Apart from the fog, and the fact that an empty Walsh Park doesn’t bear much resemblance to the Astrodome and that half the teams weren’t wearing matching shorts or socks, it was very reminiscent of Super Bowl 51. The Geraldines led 0-8 to 0-2 with 27 minutes gone in the second half but ended up losing 0-8 to 2-4!
