They used him so poorly I’d almost give him a pass
He had nothing in his favour, no deep threat on thw team so the run was easily defended but he got plenty of touches for poor yardage. He was touted as the second best back in the league. He looked tired, maybe dallas ran him ragged the year before.
Touches don’t mean shit if he’s getting the wrong touches. The play calling was awful, and the turnstile blocking up front compounded that. Honestly, expecting anything other than continuous losses on weak side tosses with a back like DeMarco was insanity.
Well continuing with it was bit thats what they took him for. They didn’t want to use him in the passing game, and the injuries and fuck ups in the line were a disaster. If the blur offence had worked then those tosses would have theyd run a vassed defense ragged.
But you can hardly blame the guy when the team he’s on deliberately ignores his strengths, and puts him in bad spots?
But he wasn’t supposed to be just a run of the mill player. He rarely beat the first tackler, rarely exploded through gaps. Dropped passes.
The gaps either weren’t there or were in places where he couldn’t use his skill set. Look at his time in Dallas, particular his last year - great production as an inside back, working mainly off A gap plunges and draw plays. His lightening first step is negated is its going east/west. Of course he wasn’t beating tacklers on those outside plays, he’s never been that guy. Same with being a pass catching back.
He caught heavily enough, and not every play was an outside run he did little running straight last year either. You must the only person who doesn’t think he underperformed.

Not worth that at all, but what’s new with free agent interior rushers? Not saying he’s not good - he is. But that kind of money? Also, you have to look at is situation in Denver, where he could go to work with Ware and Miller commanding so much attention. Splashy move by the Jags, they can well afford it with their acres of cap room.
Jags run a different scheme as well.
