Next to the old dump by the halting site? You’d have been better heading up towards Parteen.
3.8km lake swim in a charity event last night. 1hr10. Happy enough. Neck raw after the wetsuit
Decent time. Good effort.
Post of the year . The mamilisation of a good dip . Wet suits , clubs , taking over the water four abreast .
Had a lovely dip in Dunmore at 8 o’clock this morning. Doggy paddled around in a circle for about 10 minutes then back to the house for a rasher and a sausage. Bliss.
Ya the morning the time . Hope to do a couple next week in Fenit .
Upping it slowly. 28 lengths this morning in sets of 4… 2 things - I’m fucking ravenous after a swim in a way I wouldn’t be after other exercise. Maybe it’s because it’s new and I’m working muscles not worked for a while… Secondly, I’ve noticed my endurance at football or out running has massively increased since I started swimming, I presume it’s down to breathing pattern?

No, you are building a more complete Energy system. You arguably have the 1st and last below from soccer and weights. Although flat out sprinting is also needed for speed, even though there is never a time you reach top speed. Seems counter intuitice but its CNS related.
In a general sense these are the 3 main pathways that work within the main athletic energy system.
Aerobic - 60-70% of max consistantly
Lactate - working near capacity for decent periods, swimming fits here
Alactic - sprinting, lifting at various speeds, accelerations
The food thing is because of the size of muscles used. All the big ones in swimming. They want refueling. Don’t refuse them
s.i joint still very stiff after a recent flare up… Some stretching and myofacial massage will relieve it for a bit but nothing permanent… at it’s worst when standing.
Anything I could/should be doing?
Swim it off.
Seriously.
Endless stuff. Swimming is not weight bearing so once it is not hurting the mobility from swimming may help.
I would also add extra stability work and multi movement combos. But way too complicated to get into here
Last swim of the year there in the Guillomene at 9 this morning. Full tide, rough swell. Totally invigorating
Why is it definitely the last?
Because I have decided so.
I never managed a swim in Dublin yet all summer. I’ll try get one in over the next two weekends and I hope to have one last one in kilkee at the end of September.
The month by month sea temperatures in galway bay would surprise you.
A belter of a day today lads. Driving from the swamp (@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy) on into malahide and along the riviera to Porto the sun was beating down and the deep blue sea was calling. Myself and one of the brothers decided we had to swim. Fucking cold on the feet and the wade in but once down it was surprisingly warm. Had a bit of a swim and a paddle. Beautiful.
Lovely, very jealous.
I’d love to build a studio on High Rock - bliss
It holds a special place in my heart. I’ve a photo of it just inside my front door.
