I’ve heard about leaving a pub legless but handless is a new one for me.
From RTE:
Man quizzed over Dublin sword attack
A 33-year-old man is being questioned following an attack in a Dublin pub last night in which a man’s hand was severed.
A row broke out after two men entered the Deputy Mayor pub in Meakestown in Finglas at around 9.15pm last night.
One of the men was armed with a sword while the other was holding what is believed to be a hammer.
A 27-year-old man remains in a critical condition following the attack. He was initially brought to the Mater Hospital and later transferred to St James’s Hospital.
A spokesperson for the hospital said he is still in surgery and his condition remains critical.
The 33-year-old man was arrested a short time later and is being detained at Finglas Garda Station.
I just rang the garda press office to get an update on this. Apparently they arranged for an ID parade to be carried out earlier today having arrested a suspect. Unfortunately the victim was unable to point the finger of blame at anybody. Investigations are ongoing and detectives in Finglas have the matter at hand.
I heard on the news at 1 that the victim’s undergone a successful procedure to reattach his hand. He was actually quite lucky because he got into the operating theatre at 11.55pm and midnight is apparently the cut-off time after which the surgeons go home for the night.
