Talk to joe 2016

Oh ffs.

Read the sports gene. Thats a religious guy who is a sports scientist. Maybe he will adjust your thinking.

The environment within which those 2 players grew up helped them become who they are. Along with genetics.

I donā€™t rely on other peopleā€™s opinions to form mine like you clearly do. I use my own intuition for that and it has served me well. It has shown you up to be the two bit spoofer you are on countless occasions.

Could someone give a breakdown of the last 100 odd posts please. Has someone found a cure for cancer?

Iā€™ve developed mild dyslexia recently. If I get cancer, should I leave it to my God or my dog?

What if I donā€™t have either a God or a dog?

Kev has.

Ah ffs

Joe are you the lad who is hiding the cure for cancer from the world?

Letā€™s extend the principle in a very logical way.

Some people smoke all their lives and donā€™t get cancer. Some people lead very healthy lives yet get cancer and die at a young age.

But clearly Kev thinks thereā€™s no luck involved.

I wish

If they had said evidence is plentiful, that would mean itā€™s weak, right?

Can hippies get cancer? They wouldnā€™t be stressing over much youā€™d think.

How could luck play a part in cancer?

Possibly if a company happens to be moved to your town and it poisons you in some way. I would think thats bad luck as it would almost certainly be outside your control.

Other than that i would think vast majority of stuff is a mix of genetics (you could argue luck there in a way, although its a stretch) and lack of looking after yourself.

And while we all deal with stress in different ways i think all stress is self controlable.

Well smoking?

Or stressing about the planet.

Or having to do something.

When a seven year old boy dies of a brain tumour, is that stress or not looking after himself?

Sadly for your argument, luck plays the most important role in cancer according to the most extensive study on the subject published in Science (ā€œVariation in cancer risk can be explained by the number of stem cell divisionsā€ by Tomasetti and Vogelstein).

All cancers are caused by mutations to DNA resulting in abnormal cell division. There are three causes; random mutations which can happen to anyone at any time (luck), environmental factors that cause mutations, and mutations that are inherited. The study referenced found that 2/3 of cancers were due to random mutations (luck) and the remaining 1/3 split between environment and inherited.

For the scientifically illiterate (basically everyone posting so far), I came across an excellent analogy in an article from Johns Hopkins. Consider a car journey. The chances of having an accident depend on the condition of your car (your genes), the condition of the roads you are on (the environment), and the duration of your journey (your age). In short the most significant factor is the duration of your trip. The longer you drive the more likely you are to get in an accident, the longer you live the greater the chances you will develop cancer.

They did in their hole. The church told us the earth was flat, scientists pointed out that this was rather silly, scientists are good like that.
