I’d say there is a rake of waste food, but the fact some kids will eat at least one proper meal a day is priceless. I’d hope schools would allow certain kids avail of spares as well to even take home with them.

If there is, theres a lesson there.for the kids in reuse. A pal is involved in waste industry in uk. Food waste valuable in all manner of situations particularly.if not cross contaminated at any stage with other waste streams.
For.example,.one of his bigger clients is a guy who “grows” insects from food waste- maggots, flies, grasshoppers etc. That guy sells these on to likes of chicken farms for organic feed.
So, a real opportunity to educate the kids while feeding them too while making use of the waste
