Teachers

Makes a fuck of things tho when other schools are back and we’re the only one not. The 9.20 start is a pain in the sack too, especially with no early drop off facilitated.

you might as well throw up a milking parlour in the yard starting that late

20 years ago when we were a proper country virtually every primary school used to start at half 9 tbf. A good sleep in for the chaps and teachers alike. Nowadays they’re all up before 6 for the gym and overnight oats.

Ructions in Killester this year. The two kafflick affiliated schools were formerly single sex - St Brigid’s Boys on Howth Road & St Brigid’s Girls on…eh…St Brigid’s Road. About a kilometre between the schools & a pain in the hole for families with boys & girls. Think the girls’ school started at 8.35am & the boys’ at 8.50am to allow folk to drop off at both, as required, & staggered finish times too. The school drop offs could take ages for some families.

However, at least the two schools co-operated & were aligned on new school year start dates along with the start/finish dates for all breaks during the year. It was said that the respective principals alternated in selecting the dates and the other one replicated the choices made.

Anyway, after much deliberation & engagement over recent years, this school year marked each school accepting both sexes into their new junior infants classes only. Name changes too - St Brigid’s Road NS & St Brigid’s NS Howth Road. No real impact if you already had a girl in one school & a boy in the other but a positive development for, say, a family with a boy already in the old boys’ school & a younger girl starting school. She could now join him in the same school.

Anyway anyway, the ā€œcompetitionā€ for new students in the new world meant that the old girls’ school principal got the hump, allegedly ended the historic agreement to align on dates without notifying anyone (just ignored their counterpart sending them the chosen dates) & went off on a solo run. As I say, there are still plenty of folk with kids in both schools & now they’ve already had to deal with one school starting back on Thurs 27 August & the other on Tues 1 Sep. There’s also a whole range of different dates for mid term breaks in February & May etc & various other differences.

Emergency meetings being held due to knock-on implications on childcare & ability to take family holidays due to misalignment.

I don’t know why I typed all this out.

Played golf this morning with the eldest in Millrown, they’d a day off in between starting school and the midterm, anyway he didn’t bother his hole joining a union @backinatracksuit he claims he’ll get paid if the strikes go ahead as the school will be closed, no idea if that’s true or not but he ain’t turning up for duty, anyways went for lunch in the Dropping Well after and who was at the next table only Paddy Power and presumably his teenage son apologies to @Bandage for not logging this on his stalker thread

I don’t think he gets paid, unless he calls in sick, but I could be wrong. It’s not a designated school closure.

This was from the last strike.

Sounds like the LGFA and the Camogie crowd.

Of course, I meant in general, not sure why it’s creeping further into June and August

I hope the government crush them… what about morning scrum time in office places? The likes of @StoneCold will be scaled down on his yearly appraisal because of these jerks.

You’ve become a proper establishment toady. A small bit sad to observe.

The government have offered to come to the table to negotiate. At least twice now .

We’ve a crowd coming over from head office for team building & cross training on 15 & 16 October. If the teachers go on strike then this would be absolutely fantastic for me. What a shame if I can’t make it into the office for the programme of events.

Are the Strikes not 14th and 21st?

And you wonder then why head offices want to do with WFH

Correction: cultural learnings on 14 & 15, not 15 & 16. The Wednesday & Thursday. I’d be gutted to miss out the full day programme on Wednesday @TreatyStones & the post work socialising, but I can’t leave my youngsters unattended at home. Might be able to do the morning events on day two though (cc @Bisto) before the gang head for the airport in the afternoon.

Have i? I’m anti ffg on nearly everything except the teacher scum

I hope your homeschooling your kids. You couldn’t be having ā€˜scum’ teaching them.

Giving primary school kids homework for strike day is turning me against the teachers
