Tennis Season 2014

He played Halle in 2012 where Kolschreiber knocked him out.

Finals day at the Queens Club and in Halle. Dimitrov demolished Stan Wawrinka in the semis yesterday and faces Feliciano Lopez. Be interesting to see what odds Dimitrov is for the Championship. Reckon heā€™s worth putting a few quid on.

Over in Germany, Federer faces Alejandro Falla. Falla took the first two sets off him when they met in the opening round of the Championship in 2010.

Latest ATP world rankings are out. Great to see Novak at number 1. Still disappointed that Fed didnt win his 18th grand slam yesterday.

1 Djokovic, Novak (SRB)

2 Nadal, Rafael (ESP)

3 Federer, Roger (SUI)

4 Wawrinka, Stan (SUI)

5 Berdych, Tomas (CZE)

6 Raonic, Milos (CAN)

7 Ferrer, David (ESP)

8 Del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG)

9 Dimitrov, Grigor (BUL)

10 Murray, Andy (GBR)

Is Del Potro going to be out for long more?

Think he will be back in the next few weeks. Suppose to be playing the us open at the end of august.

Murray down to 10.

Heā€™s a very cantankerous fellow who always seems to ditch his trainer prematurely. He should never have got rid of Lendl and his form has dipped dramatically since he has.

Novak in prime position for the US Open. Nadal likely to be his closet challenger but bar the latter stages of the French Open, Nadal has had an indifferent sort of a year and Novak has generally had his number of late.

Injuries & illness at the end of a long season have to be factored into the mix as well at the US Open. Nadal picked up a back injury in the Australian Open final. At the French Open, Novak picked up some sort of a bug before his semi final against Gulbis and just looked drained. A fully fit Wawrinka could well have beaten Federer in the quarter final last week, but with a bad stomach bug wasnā€™t going to pull it off. Hopefully Dimitrov can continue to show the steady improvement heā€™s made all year.

I wouldnā€™t write off Del Potro if he can get a few good warm up tournaments under him. He might be the freshest of all the top players and if he can put a run together could be a surprise winner.

I would agree he is very unlucky with injuries.

He was back on a tennis court in may hitting balls so hopefully all going well he will be back soon. Both his injuries have been to his wrists. It will be good to get a 100% fit Del Potro back.

Finally the build up to the US open has started with all the big names back in action this week in The Rogers cup in Toronto, well except that genetic mutant Nadal. Federer had an easy win last night 6-2, 6-0 against Polansky. A couple of eye catching matches on today, Murray takes on the Aussie Kyrgios who had a good win yesterday over Giraldo, hard to call this one. Then world number 1 Djokovic takes on Monfils as well today, Djokovic should win this but it should be a good game. Fogini against Anderson is another good eye catching match.

In the Womens Bouchard got beaten in the first round in Womens Rogers cup in Montreal 6-0, 2-6, 6-0. Serena Williams plays the lesbo Stousr today, she seems to have fully recovered from her 'Viral" infection that affected her in Wimbledon.

Tsonga beats Federer 7-5 7-6 in the final of the Toronto Masters. Some win for him. Beat Djokovic last 16, Murray in quarters, Dimitrov in semis and now Fed.

It was a great win for Tsonga. hopefully he kicks on from this.

Not much of a kick out of him in Cincinnati anyway. Beaten first round by Youzhny.

Been a funny enough US hardcourt season so far. Novak well beaten by Robredo last night. Looks all over the place at the moment. Andy scrapped through in a 3rd set tie-breaker over Izner. Stan Wawrinka has just been beaten in the first of the quarter finals by Julien Benneteau. Fed to play Andy later tonight.

Still no definitive word whether Nadal will make the US Open with this wrist injury. Even if he does make it, itā€™ll have been a long lay off since his last match against Kyrgios at the Championship on 1 July.

Fed beat Andy pretty easily 6-3 7-5

Ferrer beat Robredo 6-4 3-6 6-3

Fognini (the delusionist who felt he should have been on Centre Court at the Championship instead of reigning champion Andy Murray) was walloped 6-1 6-0 by Raonic.

Semi final line up Federer v Raonic & Ferrer v Benneteau

I think Tsonga was hard done by by the organisers of the Cincinnati event. He wasnā€™t given much time between winning on the Sunday and then playing again first thing on the Tuesday morning, where as Federer didnā€™t have to play till Wednesday evening. I think if tsonga got that break he would have been better.

I think Wimbledon, getting married and a baby on the way gave taken their toll on djokovic. This has to be the first time that I can remember where djokovic hasnā€™t made the semi or a final in an ATP event.

Hard to.pick a winner for the us open. Federer is on a good run but I think 5 sets is too much for him. Iā€™m going to go for djokovic for the us open.

Fed beats Ferrer 6-3 1-6 6-2 for a 6th title in Cincinnati.

He is playing well thatā€™s 3 finals in a row. The only problem with his win last night was the complete loss of concentration in the second set. I canā€™t see him winning the US Open, I think over 5 sets he will struggle.

Four, donā€™t forget he won in Halle. As you said though, 5 sets in a Slam is a different proposition. Would agree that Novak will still be the man to beat. Novak does have this capacity to turn his form around in a flash. Nadal if heā€™s fit tends to take a bit longer to find his rhythm and if he does play will be vulnerable early rounds after a 2 month lay off.

It will be interesting to see how juiced up Nadal is if he plays in the US Open. He is suppose to make an announcement early this week on whether he will be taking part in the US Open or not.
