Terrible Meals Thread

A thread to highlight eating establishments that serve truly awful food that offer very poor value.

I will kick this one off with the Debenhams restaurant in Henry St.

My companion and I were in Arnotts at lunchtime yesterday when lunch was mooted. Debenhams was suggested on the grounds that you would always get a seat there. I had reasonable memories of the good breakfasts that Debenhams used to serve when they were in Jervis so I acceded.

We reached the self service area which was clean and sanitary. I spied a section selling curries and casseroles and marked weigh what you eat - only pay for what you want. Being both a fan of curries and not a big eater this looked like it was tailor made for me, so I picked up a plate took a scoop of rice and two scoops of vegetable curry and proceeded to the check out with a cup of white coffee.

Imagine my horror when the nice lady at the check out told me the plate of curry was going to cost 10 euro. Are you serious ? Oh yes she said.

Not wanting to create a scene, I paid up but my horror at the price was nothing compared to the horror that descended upon me after tasting the food, a sweetened, gloopy and above all, cold mess. Possibly the worst food I have eaten in Dublin, ever. And the coffee at 2.50 was of a similar standard.

I nearly cried when I thought that I could have had an authentic vegetable curry around the corner in Delhi O Deli on Moore St for 4€

Avoid Debenhams at all costs.

Why didn’t you eat in Arnotts if you were in there? The food in the top floor restaurant was always excellent anytime I ate there when I worked over the northside.

It was full thraw

Fair enough so Fag. I could also recommend the Dunnes Stores restaurant in the Illac. When it opened they sent our CEO about twenty 2-for-the-price-of-1 coupons. He passed them on to me and myself and a friend who was working nearby dined like kings for half-nothing for 6 weeks or so. I particularly recommend the club sandwich, with the caveat that I haven’t been in the place in about five years.

yeah,dining like kings alright:rolleyes:

Might not belong here because it wasn’t terrible but I was very disappointed with Fade Street Social for lunch yesterday. Real snobby spot with tiny portions. Yer man Dylan McGrath seems like a cock too. We had to squeeze past him to get out the door and there wasn’t so much as a thanks or bye out of him. A real sense of we don’t you off him and the service mirrors that attitude. Drink flows like mud in there.

The pub at the spawell complex. I referenced the two euro charge for a pint of mi wadi blackcurrant in the things that are wrong thread but the whole culinary experience was quite frankly the poorest I have encountered in dublin. I first ordered a vegetable soup which was not warm enough and fairly tasteless. I felt like dining regally so then ordered a club sandwich. The bread was burnt black on both the top and bottom slices, the rashers and egg were cool, the chicken freezing, the accompanying chips passable but the mixed salad side consisted of a few rocket leaves and nothing else. The whole debacle cost me 16 euro roughly, I should have returned the sandwich but was pressed for time.

The Railway Hotel in Limerick. It’s not terrible, but it advertises Limerick ham on the menu and It’s clearly not Limerick ham.

There has always been something rotten about that place.

Has anyone gone up and complained about the food and service in these places?

of course not. We never complain.

We’re Irish

I complain by not returning, other than that what’s the point, the waiter/waitress didn’t cook the food and whoever did obviously didn’t give a shit.

Unless it was something like my soup being cold which is easily rectified, I wouldn’t bother. I’ve also heard some horror stories from restaurant staff about what happens to returns, so I wouldn’t be comfortable eating it.

Is it any wonder the troika is walking all over us with the collection of spineless 1960’s style cap twister s on display here.
If something is shit have the balls to say so.
