Disappointing that @GeoffreyBoycott took responsibility for providing score updates and then childishly stopped once Australia reversed their fortunes. TFK is never petty but sadly that was a petty act.

Sounded like they tired badly in the afternoon session. It was a gamble on Anderson but with Wood and Archer injured, options limited.

Another good session for England. 170/2 at tea, just 114 short of Australia’s first innings total of 284. Joe Root departed on 57. Yet another failure to convert a half century into a ton.
Before his century at the Oval against India last summer, he had failed to convert any of his previous eleven half centuries into a century. For a player of his class and technique, he should be scoring a lot more heavily and more regularly.
England within 17 of Australia at stumps. 267/4. They’ll need to get to 400. Going to be a tricky wicket to bat last on and England will presumably be a bowler short for second innings.
They don’t score 400 very often.
The bits I saw of it today, England led a charmed enough existence. Australia bowled a lot better than the scoreboard reflects. Root had a delivery hit the stumps but the bails didn’t come off which was truly bizarre.
England 288/5 after 100 overs and leading by four runs. Stokes the wicket to fall so far this morning just after bringing up his 50.
Fancy Australia to skittle them out quick enough with movement they’re generating here.
