Test Match Cricket

It’s a very good batting track now. Sun is out this morning as well in Cape Town. South African batting line up has been as brittle as England in recent years with all the retirements they’ve had.

South Africa 237/5. A South African win has been out of the equation since the off really this morning. They are looking increasingly likely to save the test. 26 overs left today and this 6th wicket pairing of De Kock (50 n.o.) and Van Der Dussen (17 n.o.) have been together for 33 overs now.

Part time bowler Denly picks up the wicket of De Kock. 237/6. England in the box seat now.

Two in a row for Ben Stokes and South Africa are on 241/9 with 11 overs left.

England 269 & 391/8 dec South Africa 223 & 248.

England win by 189 runs with half an hour to spare. That was a magnificent test match from start to finish over the 5 days on possibly the world’s best test venue. And to think these clowns are going to reduce test cricket to 4 days.

Nobody goes to see test cricket any more.

Newlands had a full house for the first three days and close to a full house on Day 4 & 5.

All 5 Ashes tests last summer were sell outs every day as most tests in England invariably are.

The Indians have no interest in it and they are the financial muscle of world cricket now.

Good bowling conditions and a strange decision by England to elect to bat. But yes, a dismal effort by the top order.
