England left Bess the spinner out to stop Broad sulking
There was no need to go with all of Anderson, Broad and Archer on this wicket, that’s for sure. They still bowled India out for 145 in the first innings with the spinner and part time spinner picking up 9 of 10 wickets. The India spin attack is far superior to England, but it wasn’t the spinning department that lost this test for England. Long standing problems at the top of the batting order is the biggest issue for England.
Three old problems for England.
Can’t bat, can’t bowl and can’t field.
Not a good combination for a test cricket team.
Indeed. Especially with the ashes coming up.
That was the line that accompanied Mick Gatting’s team of 1986/87 as they departed for Australia. They came home with an Ashes series win.
England have no issue setting up pitches to favour their swing bowlers and skittling out hapless Indian teams for 100 runs on home turf.
The ICB and ECB may lose a lot of revenue. I doubt they were insured for a two day finish.
English wickets are the fairest test wickets and provide a proper contest between bat and ball.
Ireland wiped out England for 80 odd and were dismissed for 30 odd.
The Indian Cricket Board will be embarrassed at producing a test wicket that couldn’t even last 2 days. Not a good advertisement for an already under fire, test cricket.
could a cynical opportunity to show up test cricket for the benefit of the more profitable pyjama cricket
Its a view that has been expressed. No country has done more to promote pyjama cricket and profit from it, like India.
The recent Border/Gavaskar series was a terrific advertisement for test cricket on pitches that went the full 5 days. The wickets in Australia are always proper test wickets that provide a searching examination of all aspects of the game.
This series has been an utter embarrassment.
It’s just not cricket old bean.
Shortest Test Match since 1935. Unreal
Uncovered pitches back in 1935 as well.
There were the two tests in the Wisden Series that were abandoned as the pitches were unplayable. Sabina Park in 1998, test was abandoned after about 10 overs. Pitch was literally concrete and someone would have been killed if it continued.
Then in 2009, the very first test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua was abandoned after just 2 overs as the pitch was effectively a sand pit and unplayable. It wasn’t far of those conditions in Amhedabad.
Snigger
This is no laughing matter.
Trigger
England currently on 110/4 on Day 1 of the 4th and final test in Amhedabad. A recovery of sorts from 15/2 and 30/3. Root out cheaply again for 5.
