Where did they lie? Didn’t everyone know that Greece existing in the euro was a fiction? How is the Greek economy ever going to be on a par with Germany operating off the same currency? It suited at the time for the euro project to bring everyone in of course so we had no bother shepherding Greece under the umbrella. Who was reckless there?
Where should we go from here? The Greek economy is fucked and can’t pay back the loans we stupidly gave it. A lot of the reason they can’t pay them back is the conditions we attached to those loans. Who should take responsibility for the effects of those conditions? What’s the point in forcing hardship on the Greek people that will ensure a deepening humanitarian crisis and ensure they are never in a position to pay anything back? Does it make you feel you’ve proved a point and it’s morally justified or something? It’s the height of both stupidity and cruelty.
They borrowed the money. they bribed their electorate, they pissed it away. They can’t even collect basic taxes. And they don’t want to. There was no one cribbing about a humanitarian crisis when they were on the pigs back. In fairness to Syriza, they didn’t cause the crisis not but they are not offering any solution except taking the piss for another few weeks. It’s only a matter of time before the Army take over now.
So if people know it’s a lie, then it’s not really lying? Don’t get into a debate about lying with me, bud. I have that market cornered. You are not addressing any of the points about Greece’s behaviour. Yes they are historically a shifty bunch but you seem to be suggesting that that’s ok and we should continue to fund it. It is ludicrous. They do need a write down but they also need to make some fundamental changes in their society which they are not willing to do. Why don’t we retire at 55? Why do we pay taxes?
Wait ten years balbec, and a new generation of Eurocrats/international financiers will be in place. The ruling elite learn nothing from history, hence the clusterfuck that is the Middle East. A new generation of Greek politicians will be ensconced, and this time it will be different. You know how it goes.
