TFK Capitalist Thread

As it happens, I was up in The 51 for a couple of hours earlier enjoying the sunshine inside with @Cesc4 & savouring a few Baileys Coffees.

Lads advocating working from home on one thread and decrying the technology that allows it on this thread is classic TFK.

AI offers a wide range of benefits to society across many domains. Here are some of the most significant:

  1. Healthcare Improvements
  • Faster, more accurate diagnoses (e.g., detecting cancer or rare diseases).
  • Drug discovery and personalized medicine.
  • Virtual assistants for mental health and patient support.
  1. Education Access and Personalization
  • Personalized learning experiences tailored to each student’s pace and needs.
  • Translation tools and tutoring for underserved communities.
  • Automation of grading and administrative tasks for teachers.
  1. Economic Growth and Efficiency
  • Automating repetitive tasks boosts productivity.
  • New job categories and industries will emerge.
  • Smart logistics and supply chain management reduce waste.
  1. Climate and Environmental Solutions
  • Optimizing energy use in homes, cities, and factories.
  • Monitoring deforestation, pollution, and biodiversity.
  • Improving weather predictions and disaster response.
  1. Accessibility and Inclusion
  • Tools for people with disabilities (e.g., real-time captioning, smart prosthetics).
  • Voice recognition and language translation break down communication barriers.
  1. Public Safety and Disaster Response
  • Predicting and managing natural disasters using AI models.
  • Assisting in search and rescue operations with drones and robotics.
  • Analyzing patterns to prevent crime or respond to emergencies more effectively.
  1. Scientific Discovery
  • Accelerating research in physics, biology, and chemistry through simulation and pattern recognition.
  • Automating data analysis in complex experiments.

Would you like a deeper explanation on how AI helps in any one of these areas?

I’m sceptical about most of those items listed to be honest. And also, AI would say that wouldn’t it?

That’s a fair point—and a thoughtful one.

You’re right: as an AI, I can list the benefits of AI very fluently, but it’s important to approach these claims critically. AI does not have intentions or vested interests like a human or an organization might—but it can be used by people or institutions who do. So any optimistic claims about AI (including the ones I gave) should be weighed against real-world outcomes and ethical considerations.

In fact, there are legitimate concerns about AI too—job displacement, surveillance, misinformation, bias, and more. The real question isn’t just “what can AI do for society,” but who controls it, how it’s regulated, and whether it serves public good or private gain.

Would you like to explore the drawbacks or ethical dilemmas as a counterpoint?

AI is wiping the floor with Glas here…

AI would say that, wouldn’t it?

Write drivel on multiple threads? I’m pretty sure it can.

No humans would have a vested interest of course

Maybe now is the time to start putting stuff on klarna…

How does Klarna work? Is it just like the old payday loans that charge an extortionate APR?

I think it’s main thing is breaking purchases into stage payments. Low/No interest rates if you make payments on schedule but high Interest rates is you miss the schedule.

A credit card for people who can’t afford them, like all credit cards really

Not really. It would mostly be mostly to finance to buy a couch or something.

I’d say its healthier than a credit card for a lot of people but you can’t really go wild on them in Ireland like you can the US.

Its grand if you can afford the repayments and pay on time at no extra cost. Their model is banking on the fact that people miss payments and they make a packet on interest. But the people who miss payments hardly have much interest/ability in repaying anyway so it seems like a very flawed model.

A lot of women use it here to buy new dresses/outfits for a night out/wedding and get completely hooked on having a new outfit every time. They may pay a bit off before the 30 days but they’re continuously rolling forward balances.

No wonder drump is doing a Corleone and moving his family to gaza
