TFK exclusive: Donal Og's Gay

Speaking of questioning people’s motives, like Francis did about Sam, you’d have to wonder if this is an attempt by Francis to be “controversial” and try to increase his media profile as a result and he just totally misjudged the subject.
He seemed to fail to understand that Sam has most likely cost himself a huge amount of wages by coming out.

Sam plays flamboyantly? What the fuck does that even mean? Yeah, his pink skirt was a dead giveaway.

That was the most ridiculous clichĂ©d stereotypefest I’ve heard. He didn’t have a clue what he was trying to say.

“I’m a big [American Sports fan] so I’ll follow his career. I didn’t see the draft, so I dunno who picked him” - What an absolute spoofer.

[quote=“Sidney, post: 904472, member: 183”]You’re forgetting Franno’s performance at Twickers in '94, when the Irish Independent memorably dubbed him “Franno the raging bull”.

It’ll be interesting to see if any u-turn Franno has to perform over these comments is as big a car crash as Mick Doyle’s final u-turn.[/quote]
Safe bet the good ol SIndo will row to his aid next weekend.

That was my first thought too. Francis just looking to get his name out again.

Franno was born on the biggest day in the Irish rugby calendar - 17 March. He turns 50 next month and what a fitting present it would be if his alma mater could deliver title number 68 on the big day. They used to talk of Alexander of Macedonia weeping at 33 because there were no more worlds to conquer and Eric Bristow having similar issues at 27, Franno had that problem on his 18th birthday as he starred for the original (and still the best) Willow Park dream team.

I probably am been a bit tough on him.

are you an idiot?, seriously?
The book deal, TV appearances, Gay icon, even if he never makes it in the NFL he has set himself up now for life by this.
some of you fuckers are so naive its unbelievable, again if you’re gay, great, so what?, why the public announcement?

I said wages, specifically talking about what he will earn initially from his first NFL contract.
The SEC Defensive player of the Year has been drafted typically in the first half of the first round [Pick 1-16] in the last 10 years. Sam is projected as a third round [Pick 65-96] and coming out has contributed to that.
The difference between what pick #16’s first contract is potentially worth [assuming they play out the full contract] and what pick #96 is potentially worth is about $6m.

@mickee321 well clamped here.

I remember in the run-up to that Ireland-Wales match in 1992 that Franno had a chest injury of some sort, and the speculation was that he may might have to wear a protective bra to play.

I guess you could say he was a a pioneer almost.

its the first constructive post from the mob with some reasoning and an argument laid out and i will tip my hat to @cluaindiuic 's knowledge of the data.
however, i do not agree that this individual’s career will be detrimentally affected by this announcement, even he never makes it in NFL he has set himself up reagrdless, and if he does go on to have a brilliant career as a footballer then i am sure he will use this wisely during and more importantly after his career is done.
saying his “coming out” will impact his position on the draft is scaremonering and something one would love you to believe

Sam is the joint number one defensive player in college football’s number one conference. The hype about this announcement and the quality of the player involved make it inevitable that he will be drafted (although it’ll be interesting to see what pick he is - people are saying he’d be expected to be a third or fourth round pick - I’d have thought higher given what I’ve already stated about his ability).

The true test of how effective his coming has been will only be seen if and when there are further openly gay players and how they fare career-wise. Because they won’t have been the first, it may make it easier for teams to steer clear of them and for the homophobia which will still likely exist to be brushed under the carpet.

Alexander was a sodomite as well Manuel.

You are unbelievably stupid. If he doesn’t make it in the NFL then this is just 15 minutes of fame. In ten years time there will be a documentary on him in a “where is he now” type doc, if he fails to cut it at pro football. Probably living out a normal life working in whatever field he studied.
If he makes it after one season it will more or less be forgotten he is gay, as it should be and he’ll be judged purely on his football ability.
His ability to make money will always be based on him being a good football player, not being gay. If he was not good at football we’d never hear of him.

Francis saying 1% if the sports population being gay is so incredibly out of kilter it’s unbelievable. Apparently a few of the gay community have plenty stories to tell about AFL players in Melbourne, and I’m sure it’s the same everywhere. They say it’s somewhere between 5&9% of men are gay, so 1 % of sports people it’s just a ridiculous comment, it won’t differ too much from the % of general population.

funny to see the GGA loads talk about Donol the tax dodger being a trailblazer for coming out

Ian Roberts-NRL star came out in 95 to a sympathetic reaction from Rugby League fans

Some tax dodging nobody that couldnt play a real sport coming out certainly isnt a thing of note

Talks of Franno doing this to raise his profile or court controversy are well side of the mark. He was clearly uncomfortable talking about this when you listern back, he was almost squirming.

Completely at odds with someone who had a pre prepared plan to cause a storm.

He made a silly mistake for somebody with media experience of saying what he was thinking

you cant say he had a prepared plan to cause a storm, maybe he was speaking his mind.
i actually think he was half taking the piss throwing in the flamboyant thing tho, i laughed when i heard him saying it and knowing Franno as I do id say it may have been banter.
either way, his main point was why is this news? in 2014 why is it news that someone is gay? why do we need to read about it amid a media fanfare, ? what the fuck is wrong with the world?
the spoonfed mob cant see that tho

The reaction this morning of Ivan’s sidekicks was one of faux outrage. They found Franno’s comments deeply offensive. I’m offended by the existence of Ivan’s sidekicks Chris and Oisin but thats a different story.
