It will be sorely missed
Is it possible to give ratings other than “liking” on any of the posts?
It’s only early days and I’m sure all the teething problems will be ironed out but it’s hard enough to navigate at the moment. If a thread has say 50 pages how do you go straight to page 50 rather than scrolling all the way down to the most recent posts?
I’m sure in time it will be as user friendly as the old site anyway.
Only rating is liking.
To quickly move around a post or topic list you can click the progress bar on the bottom right and go straight to top or bottom or a specific page #.
Cheers. I’ll give it a go and will get the hang of it eventually.
I’ll miss the auld well clamped ratings. Nothing more childish and immature but it was a nice rating all the same.
Can you run some sort of an update statement against the users table mate and replace a_s with ’
It synced with the Google and had me real life PIC as me avatar … Madness… It’s not really tablet friendly… Also… Ah forget it.
im 100% happy with the change
luddites will struggle though
My cat is meowing at the bedroom door, should I let her in?
Happy enough with it Rocko, looks pretty clean. Would be nice if there was a bit more of a distinction from where one post ends and another starts though.
Not really sure why we have this “improvement”. What’s the logic exactly?
why did i receive an email about this reply from Fran?
This is Henry Ford-esque.
You can give any rating you want, so long as it’s “like”.
I don’t like the lack of pages and the new smilies are all gay.
Should have voted No, voted No, should have voted No.
@Rocko, bring back the ignore function. It will be a hard enough adjustment without going into threads you want to read only to see shite from Rimmer et al.
Bollox, I forgot you existed I had you on ignore so long.
There were a few drivers.
1 The old forum was badly creaking. It needed significant investment in hosting and plenty of tidying up.
2 There are a few things I didn’t really like about the old software. The pagination is a bit old as a concept, that sort of feel is not how new software is written. This software isn’t purporting to be anything apart from a forum. So it puts the topics and the different methods for viewing them front and centre. The old forum took a lot of hacking just to get rid of the idea of having topics hidden away in forums. And the more time went on the more those hacks caused more problems.
3 I really believe this type of architecture is the future. Criticism is expected because it’s such a departure but it does feel more natural as you get used to it. If people think it’s too white or they want more obvious post separation etc then that’s fine and it can all be changed, within reason. It’s hard to separate the styling (that can be changed) from the design and architecture that’s part of the underlying software. But the layout is how I think forums should look in the future.
You can change that in your preferences if you wish.
Wonderful scenes. Lots of gimps on the missing list.
This is not helping my hangover
You need pagination on a forum. It brings far more order to the way it’s arranged. The whole thing is far too jumbled without it.
Also I want to be able to retain the option to drunkenly bump some thread that hasn’t had a reply since 2006 by flicking to page 2000. I now cannot do this.
All those coloured circles on the forum index are very irritating to the eye.
On the notifications thing at the top, I’m being notified every time somebody makes a new post in any thread. This is also an annoyance.

There might be some things that can be changed but pagination isn’t likely to be one of them. Breaking topics and lists into pages that contain 20 items each is a legacy from old software and it’s arbitrary and makes no sense. It’s not jumbled, the order is the same as it ever was.
I’d argue it’s easier to find content because you have the 4 primary views:
- latest (topics with most recent posts)
- new (new topics)
- unread (topics that you have previously read but which have new posts in them)
- categories (view by category, and then have those first 3 views within each category).
I can’t see how that’s inferior. It’s just slightly different, but it has more options, not fewer.

One of the advantages of the suggested topics is bringing up old topics. Also the search is far better and should do that. If you just want to randomly pick a thread for no reason at all then I’m sure you can figure out a way to do that.

A matter of preference. If people don’t like them, I may look at reducing the number of them. I think they add a bit.
Change that in your preferences. When you spend more than 4 minutes in a topic you are then “tracking” it. That means you get a notification of posts in that thread because you’re seen as interested in it.
You have a few options:
- you can choose not to track it at the bottom of the thread by clicking on the tracking button and changing it to something less attentive. That is a solution for each particular topic.
- you can go to your preferences and opt to only track topics after you’ve spent a much longer time reading them. That is a solution for all topics:
- Also in preferences you can opt not to track topics from a particular category if you so wish. So you can mute categories, or opt to watch them or track them.
