TFK "feedback" thread on big move

except I get notified every time one of the cunts responds to each other because my post was at the start! :rage:

Myself and TSG are just carrying out some testing for Rocko. Please be patient while we iron out some kinks on the new website.

it seems to be working well old mate

The new search function is shit.

This might not be an issue for most but it is for me. I have so many vindications to claim over the next few months.

The new search function is an awful lot better IMO.

Yep. Results were as you predicted as usual, bro.

You can’t filter results by using a search word by a poster and the inverted commas don’t work for checking something specific.

They also don’t seem to be in order by date.

Maybe I’m missing something there but that’s my experience so far.

The place has settled down now and posters are flying it. The move has wiped out a lot of multiple accounts and spoofers.

Agree

You’re missing the options. Click the help button when you’re searching to see them, I’ve copied them below:

That’s Double Dutch to me.

I can see what the options are but how do I filter the criteria?

So if you want to search for Roma and you want the results ordered by most recent then type:

Roma order:latest

If you want to search for Roma where the word Roma appears in the first post and where the poster was Rudy you would type:

Roma in:first user:Rudy

Ok, now I understand.

The other way was much more straightforward.

Can we get the boxes back?

I said I’d hold judgement for a few days, but for me this is a fantastic upgrade.
For someone like me who just likes to come in, find out a bit of stuff, have a natter, wind up a few cunts and piss off it’s brilliant. What kinda morons can’t see how much easier the whole thing is now. Everything I easier. Much faster to look back a bit thru the thread if you really need to, but generally you just scroll back. I like the information I’m getting and I like that the emotions on’s are gone. We all used them, but when you think about it they were ridiculously childish. Should expose a few more bluffers now who actually have to converse.

One drawback is the lack of an ignore function. But I hope having to read some of the cunts here and ignore what they say will aid my personal development.

Well done Rocko, one of the few decent things you’ve done around here in a long time.

Agree with Kev, the new setup is superb. Happy to be a member of a forum that stays close to the cutting edge rater than allows itself become stuck in a rut. Especially love how the posts appear automatically in running during a match or whatever, takes the whole keyboard warrior experience to splendid new heights

Not in the short-term. It was certainly more straightforward but it wasn’t always right. The new search is more powerful, more context-driven and ultimately should be better once you get used to it.

Thanks Kev. Prompted me to write a few things about the change - not sure it’s all a response to your post but anyway:

If I was starting TFK again I’d be a fool not to do it on Discourse (this software). It’s only new though and has only been suitable for our needs for a year or so. Polls are only properly available since January or so for example. But the implementation of polls is way ahead of the legacy style.

TFK is the first site to migrate from XenForo to Discourse as far as I know so it is a radical change and required an awful lot of help from people who have never used this site and have better things to be doing with their time but gave hours of assistance to the migration because it’s a path they wanted to establish for others.

The architecture of the forum is undeniably different but it’s far more geared towards informative discussions than segregating things by pages and imposing a rigid
Forum A

  • Subforum B
    Forum C
type structure which everyone else does.

I know a couple of people mentioned not using Categories but I think in time they’ll find them handy, particularly for less frequent posters. If you want to read ever topic then you won’t leave the main view. If you’re on holidays or have limited time you can skip straight to reading about sport and the look and feel is the same and the flow of information is uninterrupted.

The replies and quotes thing is certainly a hurdle for people. I have mixed views on it. The creators of Discourse have done hours and hours of research and testing into how people digest information and are resolute, to the point of stubbornness, on how quoting and replying should work. I think it’s a big departure for an existing forum like TFK so I’d have preferred to change everything but that and then introduce that after a while but that’s not an option.

Like the quotes/replies thing, most features/absences of features are all geared towards encouraging the reading/writing experience:

  • the creators will not allow people to ignore users completely because it doesn’t comply with their vision for how dialogue should work. Again, I wouldn’t mind the option but the software is probably more written with new forums in mind and if you build it that way, the expectation is that people who don’t fit in, will leave
  • no negative ratings is another sticking point for them: fairly obvious what they’re thinking. I did like the ratings, but ultimately they added precious little value other than a fleeting moment of giddyness for a roaster in the depths of rural Clare once in a while.
  • and the lack of pages: I’ve said before, I can understand why people find it disconcerting at first but there aren’t many logical reasons for imposing pages on people so it makes absolute sense to abandon them. And once you’ve seen the posts update on the fly I think it justified any pain.

The negative ratings are a gift.
