Not bad considering it was the first outing of the year. Took 7 minutes off my time from last year(which was very poor so I wouldn’t read too much into it) The hills from the 8k mark are a killer. Will keep an eye on the Adare one, will be back down for the Milford Hospice one and will get a few in around the big smoke.

After Limerick last year, i ordered new shoes but was rushing online and ordered the wrong model, New Balance Fuel Cell Propel, instead of New Balance Fuel Cell Rebel. They felt ok and i did little bits in them over the summer, but was a bit sore after some runs, which I put down to the fact I was only running intermittently. Started back last week and upped the volume and distance and bang, sciatica flared up badly.
Went into Gleesons to check there if the shoes could be the issue and she confirmed the propels have a different arch support and plate in them. Got myself a new pair of Rebels and they are lovely. The sciatica has settled down after 4 days off so did a little bit this morning in them and felt fine after it.
Just shows the difference getting properly fitted and assessed shoes can make. The service and knowledge in Gleesons is unbelievable, could have gotten them for a nice bit cheaper online but I think you have to support shops like that.
That’s twice now picking my own shoes has caused me bother.

A nice little interaction in the shop yesterday.
A young lad comes into the lady who does the assessments and said he’s been getting a pain in his knee after running. She gets him walking up and down the shop. On his way back down he says “I was told I’d need a pair of New Balance 1080s”
The lady throws her eyes to heaven “you do in your hole need a pair of 1080s, sit down there and I’ll sort you out”

I’m back down for the Bank Holiday weekend and will call in to them for a chat. Have a pair of Hokas that I bought myself but time for a change and proper fitting I think. Slight change on Friday morning and went early morning instead of after work for the run: totally different vibe around the city

Look for Siobhan if she’s there, an older lady, but going by yesterday she seems to have a few younger staff trained in the art too.
