TFK Hurling Team of the Last 20 years - midfield

2 years, mate. 2018 and 2019.

And 2020 still to come. Weā€™ll fucking walk it.

Fennelly, and Lyng just shades it over Jerry Oā€™Connor

Maher shades if for me over Lyng. Fennelly is a given. Tommy Dunne was a Rolls Royce of a hurler but a lot of his hurling (bar 01) was during a bleak enough time for Tipp.

Lots of excellent hurlers in this list. Would rate them all

Fennelly and Cha for me . I really loved watching Cha . A wizard

Cop on lads, 2 best hurling Midfielders of the time period without question are Mick Fennelly & David Burke.

+1. Two all time greats. Iā€™m sure Tom Dempsey would agree with me too.

Iā€™ll get shot for saying it, but I think heā€™s overrated.

Heā€™s a good player but the midfield options on this bar Mick Fennelly are probably the weakest of all. A lot of lads who had 1 or 2 excellent years and then more consistently good lads like Lyng and Burke without particularly standing out

Vital cog in their successes.

So was the bus driver.

He always stood up when others around him wilted. A very unGalway like trait.

Took him a while to settle though, i remember him getting sent off against offaly back in the day playing wing forward, he floated around the forwards before making Midfield, two goals in the 2012 replay iirc

A great player, but not consistent enough to be the best midfielder of the last 20 years.

Fennelly is nailed-on here but I think you could make a strong case for a number of others.

Burke probably Galwayā€™s most consistent player over the past 10 years, Kenny & Oā€™Connor were both excellent on a great Cork team, Brendan Maher is just an unreal hurler but didnā€™t play as many years at midfield as you would like, with McGrath/Woodlock a partnership for a long time. More recently, Barron & Lynch in particular have been excellent over the past 4 or 5 season. Rice, Lyng, Cha all very good too.

I definitely donā€™t think any of those are blatant choices.

Iā€™d shoot you for saying that. A super player.

He scored a fantastic Peter Duggan esque point in 2012 against Kilkenny playing wing forward. Not sure if it was the Leinster Final or All Ireland

He has 4 All Stars! Think his form has dipped alright in the last year but he has a mountain of hurling done. Great player for a long time though overall. And always saved his best performances for the biggest games.

Am I banned from voting? On other polls for corner backs and wing backs one of my votes registered and the second didnā€™t. Am I misunderstanding the voting system or am I being disenfranchised because Iā€™m a nordie?

My choices which I canā€™t register are B Maher & M Fennelly
