the answer is yes , this approach to the Pacific North West shows a serious levels of guile and experience as Portland is one of the best airports to fly into and the Amsterdam with KLM route is a level above any of the delta/AA/AE trash you would get- the flight costs at least 3 times what these carriers would provide but in the semi conductor industry no expense is spared, etc…
as a footnote i lived next to The Nike Center where the Oregon Project was based in Beaverton- they had great facilities that members of the public could utilise once donning nike shoes and no other obvious upper body paraphenalia from a different supplier, the have a similar operation in amsterdam

How does travel time factor into annual leave? I assume today counts as a working day for you?
I get a day in lieu for travelling on a non workday.

The Iranians will be in good spirits.
You’d need it. Travelling on a Sunday is cuntish. Worse if you’ve a young family.
The last job bumped you up a class level if traveling Sunday.
It’s alright if it means getting home on Friday. Landing home on Saturday is worse than a dose of the trots

45 minutes to get through customs and make my connecting flight. Have the feeling I will be watching the packers v seahawks at the airport bar

That’s a serious location. On the river, magnificent mile, navy pier a stroll away although not sure how hospitable that would be in winter. Enjoy your evening!
