A question for any frequent US travellers who have mentioned they use melatonin (@TheUlteriorMotive is the only one I can think of). How long would you use melatonin for? Just the first night to reset, or for the duration of your trip?
How long you there for. I have only ever used it for two or three nights. It does not make you sleepy but helps keep you asleep and not wake up silly early
West Coast, fly out Sunday, fly home Thursday. Used it the last time for the Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday nights, and potentially the plane home too. I noticed it has a massive impact on the amount of deep sleep you end up getting with it. Would you ever has used it to regulate when youāre back or only while travelling?
From chatting with the Yanks about it theyāre mad about it. Spoke to at least 3 people who take it daily at night time, almost like you would take multi vitamins in the morning. Seems nuts.
I find it really effective, surprisingly so since it isnāt actually a sedative, but Iād only use it as a once-off if Iāve had a run of bad nights (usually caused by alcohol) so the possibility is Iām just tired anyways.

Yanks take Xanax for the fear with hangovers.
I have used it at home too. I donāt think a few days do much harm.
West coast is a bitch for jet lag. You end up waking at 2 or 3am when you fly over.
Try time shifter app too.
This is exactly it. Barely keeping the eyes open at 9pm and wide awake at 3am. Melotonin got me to 5am last time around. Those 2 hours make a massive difference.

I see Aer Lingus now email you your lounge passes when you book a business class flight and you need to print these off and bring them with you in order to get access to the lounge.

back in my halycon days i was on a chartered plane - Portland to Tel Aviv - sat night left porland - returned wed night from TLV - refuelled in Shannon and Bangor, ME on the way over and back
this was all based on some researcg from technion in haifa that said jetlag wont set in with 4 days x- time zone
we got to TLV on the monday morning and hopped on a bus straight to work- then i hired a car and drove it back up that evening to jerusalem - dunno how i wasnt killed

Itās 4.30am on the West Coast. Iāve had 6 hours straight sleep and feel like I could do fucking anything right now. I got more sleep last night than the last 2 nights combined. Jetlag is a pure cunt of a thing.
do you get much grief from the war office heading off on trips like this?
i packed a lot of it in TBH - probably has adversely affected me professionally but shur they keep paying me every 2 weeks
No, in fairness to her. I changed roles back in October and knew more travel would be part of this so we had a good chat about it before I took it.
It means weāll probably do more family trips during the year to make up for it which isnāt all that bad.
Iām looking forward to a good healthy travel ban being put in place after this week which will save me travelling anywhere until late April or May hopefully.

Have an open request in for flights for next week and the responses from travel company are coming in notably slower. Iād say thereās a fair bit of rescheduling going on on their end.
I get free lounge passes with a bank account. Handy if the airport is fuller than the lounge. Often as not I look in now, and donāt bother.
Board announcement awaiting in my inbox this morning. Staff will not be permitted to undertake business travel until further notice.

I would love it - LOVE IT - if we got the same announcement, but I am not hopeful.
I have been told only essential travel will be permitted and as I carry out essential work I will have no choice but to go state side in March.
