TFK - Some Problems & Some Solutions

Shane Lowry has gone all Pat Dolan on us I believe

I thought he had already gone all Pat Dolan

Server problems. I received an apology email from our hosting company. I’ll ask them to contact everyone individually.

We have a new FOTF, Lane Showery

One of the features of our new software will be a bit like the prefixes we use here but a bit more formal and organised.

When you go to the forum you will see a list of all topics, but you can choose to filter to see topics from certain categories only and to ignore topics from other categories if you so choose.

At the moment we have 20 odd prefixes and it’s too many. Nobody is just going to visit TFK for the gridiron content on its own for example. But they might like to see all the sport in one place for example.

So what do you think the category structure should look like? Note: the default view will still be to see all posts from all topics, this is just supplementary but it’s more inbuilt to the forum than the current prefixes are.

I was thinking something like:

SPORT (which would include soccer, gaa, rugby, gridiron, equine, other sports, betting?)
CULTURE (which would include current culture, media, food & drink, goblins posts)
CURRENT AFFAIRS (which would include nationwide, worldwide, politics)
STUFF (which would include things, people, betting?)
HELP (which would be TFK)

Thoughts on that hierarchy?

It’ll be useful for a week till everyone reverts to what they’re used to

How about everything stays the same

Your thoughts should not be on the usefulness of the hierarchy but on the hierarchy as suggested. Please re-read my post and reply with a more relevant opinion.

Please please please can you have a separate prefix for all the limerick/clare knuckledragger banter?

My firm belief is that the more modern the interface the less chance of a muldoon navigating it successfully.

Nope. The categories you have are useful when looking for something, other than that the default view is grand. I like being able to click GAA which would filter a rake of “sports” threads I have no interest in.

I think I’ll do sub-categories for the sports ones.

For the others, the only reason to filter People is to search for a thread. Nobody actually only wants to see threads prefixed with people.

Can we get a Calling @Mac category?

There should be a coty category. You can include rugby to bulk it up

@Rocko
Why do you ask for our opinions when you do as you fucking please anyway?

You insubordinate piece of shit!

@Rocko, any chance you could make the first unread post icon button thing a bit bigger

Yeah but as we are moving anyway, it’s probably not worth my while. It’s about 2 hours’ work. It’s a pain in the hole.

In other words, Go Shit in Your Hat, @Fran

Just click on the thread title, does the same thing
